Yeah, Greg, it is in great condition. There is always a glitch with most of my knives. Just the way I buy them.
But this one is pretty sweet. The spey was triple stamped though ....... just in case I think it's perfect.

Joe, just a gorgeous Shapleigh DE it definitely looks Schrade made. Beautiful peach seed jigging. I know a lot of the early DE folders were made by Empire but this one looks later made and certainly has Schrade DNA. Very nice photos by the way! Lloyd

Schrade Cut Co Catalog E shows this knife as pattern 7303 on pg 87. The master blade on o.p. knife has lost the downward curved point as is the case with most Pruning and Hawkbill blades on used knives. I think some of this blade loss at the tip is from poor sharpening technique.

The Schrade Cut Co. catalog calls it a "Budding and Pruning Knife".

Joe, very nice, such a graceful looking knife with great bone. As others stated it's Schrade, I just picked up a Schrade this week that is a dead ringer other than the shield to yours.

Thanks KJ for the Schrade Cut Co listing - but isn't a "budding and pruning" knife in that style essentially a farmers jack which is how I would define a farmers jack ...

No pattern number, both blades stamped Schrade Walden.

Pattern 7303 "Budding and Pruning Knife 4 1/8" " is how it is listed in Cat. E. And yes "Farmer's Jack" is the name often used for this pattern.
Some of the Cat. E listings do use less 'formal' names, like their Premium Stock knife with square bolsters they call a "Texas Stock Knife". I actually expected to see "Farmer's Jack" as the name in the catalog.
Yours looks to be missing only a very tiny amount at the tip. The blade as shown in Catalog does not have a large curved pointy tip like 1361 "Large Pruning Knife".

Nice examples Joe and John. Joe , I have one like yours, only not in that good of shape. John, I'm surprised to see that one stamped Walden. The Bartlett Manufacturing examples I've seen were all marked Cut Co. That's a beauty. Yes they are farmers jacks according to Levine, pruners according to old Sheffield catalogs, rooster combs to many down south, and GEC's John Chapmans.

I guess I call 'em farmers jacks!!! Smiling
