My latest Schrade

This is my only Schrade, an unusual jigged bone Old Timer. The seller told me it was a c. 70's, possibly custom, from the Stidham estate. Don't know much about them but this one is unique enough to peek my interest.

Yehuda that's a nice one, it is rehandled and the old timer shield was added, the original shield would have been a federal style. That model 881Y is an "open stock" meaning it's not part of the old timer or uncle henry line. The Y denotes the smooth yellow delrin handles it had originally, the old timer shield was never original on this knife. The NY before USA means it was made pretty soon after the end of the schrade walden era so it's probably 1973 or 74ish, I'm not exactly sure when the NY mark was dropped.

I suspected this could be a rework but it is so well done I'd hoped it was some kind of custom job. I'm guessing this was a private job or did the Schrade factory do specialty jobs like this? Thanks for your input and knowledge!!

That nice bone looks very much like the bone that Schrade put onto the Parker "Bison" stockman, 1978ish.

I was just messing around when I said you woudn't see them too often. There never was a Heritage Sharpfinger or a 1983 Heritage 2331. Those two were courtesy of Herman Williams. The Sharpfinger is one of my favorite Schrades...the first pattern I collected... and the 233 was my first knife as a kid, so Herman made those 2 knives for me in Red Bone and put the 83 Heritage shields on them. I had to supply 2 knives for the shields. When he asked what I wanted done with the knives the shields came off of I asked for plain white bone handles...he didn't have whatever my first choice of bone was. That was the start of my Schrade White Bone collection that ended up taking on a life of it's own...and the mirror on my dresser.

Thanks the good words, it's always nice when fellow collectors like a display. Sure does beat the old "Gee that's pretty". I think you have to be a collector to appreciate the time and work that goes into collecting the knives, building the display and all the revisions you go through until it's just right. I know this thread is for latest Schrades but I'm going to show my latest Schrade display if I can get some good pics of it tomorrow, unless someone objects.

Here is my latest Schrade display. It takes up half of a 4'-9" x 2'-3" coffee table top I built. The Bottom row consists of all Herman Williams knives and the top row are corresponding Schrade models...mostly SFO's. The one exception is a Canal Street Muskrat in Ram's Horn. I used SFO's for the color and to stay away from delrin. There is one wood handle SW 804 in the group.

Crikey Doug, you have some amazing displays. I can remember some of the others you have displayed here from time to time, and they are quite considerable, and all as magnificent as these.
I would probably go so far as to say you have more knives in displays than anyone i know. I also remember that you said once that "you can't see your knives if they are in a drawer". I would sure like to see them in person one day. I am a great admirer of your work.

Hello, Im pretty new to Schrades, but got the Old-Timer-itus bug,and have been on a mission to find a few older 80ts. Im at work..but will post a few pics later this evening. please check out my gallery. From what I believe to know..this is the second run bone..as this is not smooth bone..but saw cut?

Here are 2 neat Schrade USA Lockbacks.
Every year Colt commissions a knife company to make a "Colt" knife for them. They usually are expensive high end knives from Jos. Rodgers in Sheffield, and manufacturers in Solingen & Italy as well as USA.
Here is the 1993 Colt, a Schrade USA LB5.
And a Matco 1983 fancy LB7 with a well tooled flap over sheath.
Good scores if i do say so myself.

Oh yeah; yers is the real deal, alright. The degree of texture to the 'sawcut' surface can vary, but yours is from ground zero (except for a small difference in shields. There WAS an oval shield that preceded the shield you show, and actually may have only been a prototype). Your knife is as good as it gets.

Roland, those are some nice lockbacks that I never knew even existed! I am not much of a lockback guy, but there are a few that trip my trigger. Here is one that is actually still in the mail (I hope). The early (1979) introduction in non-stainless steel.

A few more pics..its difficult to capture consistent colors..this is low lighting in garage from what little sun was coming throughh the clouds. The back side is darker than the front though. Thoughts?
