DREMEL MICRO TOOL review

I recently burned up my old Dremel tool and picked this model up to replace it. I really like this one , it has variable speeds which is nice, light weight, relatively slim, low battery indicator light and easy to hold onto ..... best of all it has LED lights in the nose which is a huge improvement. The tools a bit pricey but well worth the money if cordless is needed.

Have you used it enough to get a feel for battery life? And how's the torque on that battery operated motor?

I like the idea of the lights on the front. I wonder if they make a corded version with the light?

The torque is very manageable , they recommend setting it on the dock after use to keep it ready. I did notice that the battery life is enough for most jobs without recharge , granted it is a light duty tool compared to a foredom or corded tool etc. Kaleb; I looked for a corded model with lights and from what I gather this is the only lighted model. I got this one at Orchard supply Hardware on Christmas sale for 49.99 which was a screaming deal!

I bought one of these about a year ago.
Here is my take on the tool:
While it is quite handy and has good battery life, mine has vibration that I find typical with all the newer cordless Dremels.
The motor has good torque-as these are typically used in delicate, light-duty jobs. But I find that if pushed, the tool actually will shut itself off if over loaded.
I also don't like that the tool only starts at high speed, and you have to keep pushing the speed button to regulate it every time you turn it on.
This model is certainly less precise than my old Dremel Mini-Mite-which runs true and smooth. I do have another Mini-Mite that has the same problems as the Micro Tool.
It's very easy to confuse the on/off button with the collet lock button-not a good thing when the tool is running.

Looks like an OK tool for light work. As far as knives goes, keep it away from them.

I have tried to use my Dremel on a few pocket knives ( buffing, not sharpening) and
found it to be of no value. ( No damage, just a waste of time)
Elbow grease and a light touch is the way to go.

I find dremel useful for several knife repairs for example , removing peened pin heads , lightly countersinking liners, engrave detail and light crud cleanup etc. .... ever tried to drill a hardened sear on an old American switchblade to replace the button that snapped of ?? well I put a small ball burr on this tool and use it to drill the small hole to re-attach the button , works well for shade tree mechanic like myself........are you being sarcastic Bill ?

I use Dremels quite frequently, but I don't recommend people with little experience use them. Dremels don't do what most people think they will do.

I have a corded Dremel that I keep a cut off wheel on. I use it for cutting mosaic pins and occasionally a piece of brass or nickel silver bar stock. That is about the only thing I use the Dremel for since I got a second Foredom. When it only had a single Foredom I used the Dremel to power a half-inch sanding drum or a brass wire wheel. When I got the second Foredom I stopped using the Dremel for anything but running a cut off wheel. For me a flex shaft rotary tool, like a Foredom, works far better than a Dremel. When this Dremel bites the dust I probably will not buy a new one, light or no light, although I might buy a new hand piece for one of my Foredoms.
