This is how is starts.

From what I have seen, it will start showing at the bolsters and shield edges first . Then move to the springs & exposed part of the blades.

I tried to hand polish it off the bolsters on the first one, but then it showed up on the springs over maybe a year.

I have found it will not move to the blades if I store or display them with blades open.

I've got one hanging on the wall that I have been watching for years. The crud has moved even to the brass liners. :(
