I got this Case at the antique store CHEAP because it is missing the scale from the side opposite the shield. I know it is not much to look at.... it has been sharpened pretty heavily but I would still like to try to take it apart, clean it good and replace the scales.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Where do I start?
I do want it look presentable when I am done.... besides, I can give it to my son and say, "Here, I fixed this"....LOL.
Anyway, here she is....
What do y'all think?

I would try to find a donor knife on ebay with bad blades and good handles. Take two knives and make one. That is the easiest. You can buy wood from Jantz and jig it yourself, but the results would depend on your skill. Mine is sadly lacking on jigging. You will also need pin stock and study Dale's tutorial on taking a knife apart in the tutorial section. That will help you a lot. Best of luck and post some pics for us.

Maybe there is one out there that has the other scale but is missing the one with the shield...
I was thinking along the lines of trying to find some material to make new scales for both sides.....
I have some pin material I have gathered here and there.... brass stock from hardware stores mostly.
I was mostly wondering about the handle material.... SO, is the correct term "jigging".

Jigging your own material is fun and unique, but if this is your first time doing this type of thing, I would keep it as basic as possible. You also want it to be fun for you, right? Sites like Culpepper (Knifehandles.com) have a wide variety of bone already jigged and dyed in various scale cuts. They also carry stag.
If you have any questions after reading Dale's thread, ask them in this thread. There are a handful of excellent mechanics on this site, and questions usually get answered.
Also, take pics of your knife rebuilding journey and share them, we like pics.

I probably have a good set of factory jigged wood handles if you decide to go that route.
Good luck!

Mike, if you're just putting handles on you don't necessarily have to take the whole knife apart. Just knock the butt pin and center pin out and pivot the scales around on the still installed blade pin. This way you avoid the trouble of having to re-cutler the knife. Just be careful not to twist anything loose while you're working. Also, keep track of which spring went with which blade. In many cases they're not the same length. Good luck!!
