I picked these up about a week ago. The first is a Case 6233 Serpentine Pen made in 1975. It's a single spring pattern and has delrin handles. This little bugger ( 2 5/8") still has a great snap with absolutely no blade play. Would make a great "coupon cutter" at the market.

The second is a Queen #60 single blade barlow with delrin sawcut handles. The #60 is their aluminum frame barlow. This one happens to be in really nice condition and has great "Walk & Talk".

I've got a particular hit list of Old Timers I'm trying to stick to. But I also have a bit of 'wants' for anything that is Schrade Walden or Ltd edition pre 2004. And then I got a fetish for any of the Camillus made Cold Steel folders w/ Carbon V blades.

Today's mail provided a Rough Rider versus an Old Forge. I was not familiar with the OF brand and thought it would be China made. Turned out to be a Pakistan knife. I thought the pattern was interesting:nicely turned buffalo horn handle and blade shape. Found it too stiff for my taste but once opened there was defintiely no blade wobble. Unfortunately the blade sharpening was uneven. How will the steel hold up, I have no idea.

The Rough Rider, only my second one, came as a very pleasent surprise. The tightness and sharpness of the blade left nothing to be desired. The fit of the smooth white bone and bolster were excellent. This is not a knife I would care to lose or abuse. IMHO it shows very good workmanship.

I've found the mainline RRs and the Colts which I believe are built in the same factory punch way above their price point, QS. I have a couple RR Barlows where initial F&F are better than some NOS Delrin Schrades and many Camilluses of more recent vintage. Time will only tell how they hold up but from what I've read the HT on the 440A they use is fairly decent, so that bodes well.

I won't touch a Pakistani knife. I've had one "Rite-Edge" Barlow in yeller which was intended to be a real beater. The "rite" edge vanished almost immediately, it took forever to restore, and when I set it aside for a while in the toolbox it rusted through the pen blade - a near-perfect circle in the middle which compromised its integrity. So much for "stainless". I use a yeller Rough Rider in that role now.

Here are the highlights of my week's acquisitions: My first Buck 112 (two-dot to match my EDC 110), my third "real" Robeson (missing bail but full blades and factory edge), my birth-year Case 11031 SH, a Boker beer barrel Congress (to match the copperhead in my pocket right now) and my first Ulster melon tester (markedly longer and broader than the typical Colonial or Schrade tester).

Tony the cocobello handles on the old Robeson are fantastic. That's a pretty good haul. You apparently have the same soft spot in your heart for wood handles as I do.

Thanks, Greg, it sure is a pretty knife. The scales and the blade fullness called out to me. I don't think I overpaid but I definitely committed to it.

A lot of my pickups lately have been in response to a lack of wood in my collection. And, as you've found, the more you get your hands on, the more you want... That Robeson's grain is the highlight of the haul. I'm just trying to determine if finding and replacing an original bail on the knife is worth it, since it's not perfectly minty I don't imagine it matters much. I may also just feed some leather lace through it and make a fob or lanyard.

It might be hard to find an original replacement but you might find an old junker of the same demensions cheep. As long as the bail is intact. I think a lanyard would be perfectly acceptable as well.

Case A62033 - 1979

Without even realizing it at first, I developed an affinity for this pattern out of nowhere, shortly after picking up a dot-era yeller 3233 sight-unseen that turned out to have pin cracks and, instead of going through the hassle of swapping knife and cash again, fetched me a 50% discount -- SOLD! Turns out they make excellent little "finger knives", much like the GEC #18 or the venerable peanut pattern. Good snap on every one, the x2033s in particular all seem to snap like gators.

Case 3233 - 1971

I only have the one 3233, the rest of mine are 033s like the Appy knife pictured. Considering how small and slim the old 33 frame is (the newer 033s seem to be a bit thicker), I never would have considered it suitable for my big meathooks until I got one. My MoTS 92033 seems to have gone missing, unfortunately, so I can't take a group shot of my 33s at this time, but when my inbound 63033 arrives I will attempt to remedy that. If Case ever decides to put out a x2033 moose or muskrat variation I'm gonna be in trouble...

Today I got some prime pickings Quick release oil and a big 'ol schrade cut co barlow came in the mail. I went to shawnee oklahoma today and found an antique shop with a mother lode of old knives, I was as excited as a knife nut can be in a pile of old mostly pre war cutlery. There was a TON of keen kutter stuff, some shapleigh, winchester, case, western, and robeson to name a few. Naturally I could only afford so much, the knives belonged to a collector and some were quite pricey, especially considering the amount of wear many of them had. I came home with a few, a keen kutter k13 bone punch stock (made by camillus, I have no doubt about that) and two shapleigh hardware pen knives which appear to be identical patterns with different celluloid handles that were priced pretty well. Even though there were many I wanted to buy but couldn't it was very enjoyable sifting through it all, I have never seen so many old knives in an antique shop like that, it was more like a knife show. Too bad it's not closer to home or I would make regular trips there until not much was left
