GEC - 1095 or 440C?

Hi Ya'll,
I had to find out what all the hoopla was all about, so I bought a 2006 GEC model 73 with tobacco bone handles and acorn shield. I think I'm going to like it. Workmanship looks really good. My question is does this knife have carbon steel blades or 440C stainless. No marking on blades or box. Seller did not state in ad. Thanks.

That one has 440C stainless steel.

You're welcome. So far on the slip joints only the GEC has 440C and the Tidioute and Northfield have 1095. I thought I saw one of those listed at 1080, anyone see that?

Ok Hukk, it's now time for another steel lesson for me. Is the higher the number, such as 1095, harder or softer than say the 1080 in carbon steel? What's the difference in the 2 steels and what does the number represent? I'm taking notes, so you wont have to explain it to me again

For the 10xx series the last 2 numbers refer to the percent carbon in the steel. 1080 is .80 percent and 1095 is .95 percent - roughly.
