Newest Case Pick-Ups

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

That collection of Tony Bose swing guard coke bottle knives really is quite impressive; very nice indeed. ::tu::

Here's my latest Case acquisition...055 Classic Wharncliffe Whittler w/Arrowhead Shield. Still waiting for the Bow Tie shield (which is in the mail) to complete the trifecta.

Thanks everyone for the kind words!

Q- I've actually been collecting a few more classics lately myself, I'm collecting the 55 pattern, so I though.. I believe you have the 43 Patterns. I keep mixing the two up myself. I have pics posted in the case classic thread if you want to take a look.

Pretty sure these are pattern #055 (I believe the 43 pattern has a clip master blade)

To the best of my knowledge (which I will admit is limited at best), Case made Wharncliffe Whittlers with three different pattern numbers: 55, 055 & 0055. I think the version you have (with pinched bolsters) is pattern 0055. Although, according to this Case Classics website http://caseclassicsclub.com/patterns.htm, it shows the pinched bolster version like yours under the 55 pattern number, which is the pattern number stamped on all my Seahorse Whittlers...so I am not sure exactly what's going on there.

Perhaps one of the many Case experts here on AAPK could enlighten us?

Got my third Honey-Bone Classic Wharncliffe Whittler in the mail today (bow tie shield). Surprise! Surprise! It's 1/4" smaller than my other two -- the pattern number is 0055, and the jigging is different, as well.

Good looking group Q, love the butterscotch bones. Interesting that one is shorter and the blade looks more narrow, definitely different. Hmmm, very good to see them side by side so you can see that. Never would have guessed. It's a good pattern too I'm learning. Congrats.

Thank you redrider. Got her oiled up a bit and she rides nicely in the pocket. Hard to find the tested knives at the flea markets but every once in a while I get lucky.

How many left?

Well I'm after the larger patterns, once I get both xx and tested in each while maintaining a near mint-mint.. (Which is likely impossible) I'll start pulling the small ones, unless I happen to fall into some cheap.

But I supposed here is atleast 10-20 patterns left that I haven't found.

But something I'm actively looking for more than others..

I just have 2 tested xx knives. One is an electricians knife and the other is the one shown. I am actually very new to collecting. Both mine are just HOK,S. very far from mint. I sure have seen some beauties on this site though. This was my first try at posting photos. Good luck in your search though! :D

Navyman, nice pickup at a great price! It is rewarding to find an old knife out in the wild. You might not need this, but here is a link to a post with some instructions you might find useful to remove some of the surface contaminants.

Thank you much for the link. I tried some steel wool with a little oil but not much came off. Still surface stains and pits. When I get off work I will follow the link and see if I can clean her up a bit better. Sure appreciate the link. Glad to be a part of some amazing and knowledgeable knife folks.
