Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
I've avoided Canoes forever ... never cared for the look and spear blades. Well I took the plunge ... turns out I really like it. Biggest surprise is how THIN the knife is - doesn't print much in the pocket. Has nice heft & this particular one has nice snap on both blades & excellent fit and finish. I wish I didn't wait so long.
Only complaint (if Case is listening) ... their "baby butterbean" little canoe has nice swedge grind on both blades - the larger canoe does not. Would be so much nicer with the swedge grinds ...

The Case Select canoes have the swedged master blades. It would be nice to see it in their standard line.Lansky1 wrote:I've avoided Canoes forever ... never cared for the look and spear blades. You're more than welcome, Lansky.
Here is a Case stag Gunboat (large canoe) with a bit of a swedge on the master blade and a canittler (3 blade standard size canoe) from Frank Buster and Fight'n Rooster with a swedge on the master blade.

Are Case canoes single or double spring?
What brands do I need to look for to get a single spring canoe?

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
All of my Cases are double-spring with no middle liner, but I don't have any of the Classic (Queen) or Select builds. I think one of mine is a Case Bros. which is also a double-spring. If you check the wooden "build it yourself" Case canoe kit, it also comes with two independent springs just like my standard Case canoes.ken98k wrote:Are Case canoes single or double spring?

I think Rough Rider might make single-springs, but I only have the one and I"m not in a position to check right now. My only other non-Case canoe is an old Schrade-Wolstenholm 3-blade with 2 springs - the pen and spey secondary blades ride on the same spring. Sorry I can't be of more help but I can promise Squach has a definitive answer.

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
I believe Case started using two backsprings around the early '70s. I have a ten dot 1970 stag canoe and it has only one backspring.ken98k wrote:Are Case canoes single or double spring?

I did a little reading and if I understand it correctly Case canoes made before 1985 should be single spring.danno50 wrote:I have a 7 dot (1973) which is still a single backspring.Sasquach wrote:I believe Case started using two backsprings around the early '70s. I have 2 a Buck and a Colt canoe. I call them part of my Sunday or Formal night out. This pattern disappears in your pocket.

That is a beautiful serialized canoe, Squach. That armada of Christmas canoes is impressive, too. You could probably set up a museum at this point...
It is indeed, those knives are built in China by Taylor under their acquired Imperial-Schrade brand.jerryd6818 wrote:Aren't these made in China?

Re: DO YOU........................CANOE ?
Both stunning knives! I have a '76 with the etch similar to your '78, but I actually prefer the 70s and 80s dot-era brown bone when it doesn't take the dye as uniformly. It leads to excellent and unique patterns such as the one on your knife. My '76 is way more uniform, it just looks more boring (but still my best user canoe by far). The stag on your '77 is outstanding, too. Thanks for sharing some really choice canoes!gsmith7158 wrote:Here are my only canoes. A 78 and a 77 Case both with single springs

Thanks Tony. I have noticed that dye difference in the 77,78 and 79s . I think there may have been a change in the dye formula after 76.Tsar Bomba wrote:Both stunning knives!
