What would you do?

Post by rigwelder »

i sold a knife on ebay last week. the guy just emailed me saying i sent him a empty box? i know for a fact i wrapped the knife up and put it in the box! he did say there was a empty wrap in the box. i did this the same way ive sold the rest of the ebay knives i get that dont satisfy me. theres just no place that i could have dropped it for me not to find it. im 100%sure it was in the box. it was wrapped in a paper towel taped up and packed in alot of news paper. he got the wrapper! of coarse he didnt insure it. i feel bad, but honestly not a 160.00 refund bad.

If you can't prove you sent it he will win. I will make insurance manditory for knives over $50 and include it in shipping fees. I sometimes explain it in my auctions that usually the buyer always wins unless the seller can prove he sent it. I go to the post office and get a RECEIPT, even with the Clip and Ship, I still go to the post office and have them scan it in. I always get proof that I sent it. I DON'T CARE IF THEY DON'T WANT INSURANCE. IT'S MY AUCTION AND THEY WILL ABIDE BY MY RULES. PERIOD!

This way it's either insured or I have proof of sending, buyer loses.

i see what you mean, but he will only win if i let him win. i offered insurance, i sent the knife. he cant prove he didnt get it. hes losing more by the minute anyway sending me rude emails. i remember wraping and taping the knife up! it cant just eat through the wrapper and tape and jump out! if he would have said there was no wrapper i might believe him. but he said there was a empty wrapper. thats bull. i offered to meet him half way and refund 1/2 but then he set me a rude email. i think thats fair beings he didnt want to spend money for insurance. ive got over 500 feed all positive. if i had a doubt it might be different. but the knife eat its way out of the wrapper!

I am curiouse as to what the buyers Feedback is? I don't like that "empty wrapper" part either. Maybe it fell out of the wrapper, and he accidently threw it out with the packing papers?

There's always people willing to lie and cheat. I'm not accussing him, but you do have to protect yourself as eBay/PayPal provides protection for a buyer, not much for a seller.

Come to think of it, I did have one item lost in the mail. It was a piston wrench for an M1 Carbine. I emailed the buyer a scan of my reciept and offered another wrench at a discount, which he purchased. When he saw his information on my reciept, he knew I was telling him the truth and we made a gentlemanly deal, he just paid shipping and a couple bucks on the second one.

Curious as to what his negatives are for, EVEN more curious about the feedback he's left because what he's left will tell a bigger story. See if he's had this "problem" before.

Good Luck

Check the feedback he left and how many feedbacks were mutually withdrawn.
