Randy looks like we've gotten hooked up with a couple of enablers here#goldpan wrote:That would real cool Jerry! I found the most information about the 72 pattern and its spin offs here. The little info that I found on my own all came by accident. Meaning finding one for sale and buying it! Thank you for your input here as well as the 72 patterns that you gifted me.![]()

Here is a Case Scrimshawed "Moby Dick" that depicts a Nantucket Sleigh Ride. The fun of collecting 72's and their clones reminds me of the fun and joy of my youth spent on my uncles commercial fishing boat. I worked as his pilot as he worked the waters off of the North Coast of California. I spent my summers with him until I was 20 years old. Never did anything close to whaling. But very exciting anyway! Uncle Charlie was the man who introduced me to pocket knives. Its just too bad I did not keep any the knives he gave me. But as with any used up tool, he taught me to toss em when they were worn out. I am glad that was not the case with other knife users, or we would not be collecting the knives that we do! And Jerry you gave me the bug for these after I posted a scout version of the 72 that I re-handled in stag. I did not know what a ride I would get out of collecting this pattern! I am mildly autistic (Asperger's syndrome) I get excited real easy!

Well, I have to say I felt a little foolish for making such a high bid on that McGrew last night so this morning I just mosyeed on over to the bay and found this Camillus 72 Yello-Jacket for about a third of what I paid for the McGrew. When she arrives I will place them side by side, add up the total cost, divide by two and claim that I have a set of twin sisters at a somewhat reasonable expenditure. Ta-Da. I feel better already
I'm gettin this knife collecting figured out.

Re: camillus #72
If you're going to get an Olsen, you might as well get them both.
The one from Germany.
And the OK stamped version from the USA.
While you're in Germany picking up the Olsen, be sure to bring back a Lamplough #52.
Once you get back to the states, grab a Stanley SL-6 (made by Camillus)
If you can find a Trustworthy Hardware, throw that one on the pile (made by Schrade). Kind of a rare bird.
I'm sure you'll want a York to go with those others.
That's it for now. I don't want to overload you.

Crack dealers I tell ya, a couple of crack dealers. They get a feller hooked on the biggest little knife ever made and then start pulling out the special one offs just to keep ya wanting more.
I even found myself selling off some of what I USED to collect to buy more Camillus 72's. Thanks Cuz and Grant. And I mean that, too, I love them little knives.

Re: camillus #72
.......the "72" pattern was what got me started collecting, and after I got a shoebox full I discovered what I really liked was the old 4 line and older patterns that had rogers bone on them. I still like the "72", but I don't buy any anymore. if any of you guys are looking for a certain one, let me know, I may have one!!!................

I spent the last 11 years working for the Roseville City School District. Before that I worked 14 years with California State Parks. Was very proud to wear the ranger uniform. Both used PERS as the retirement system. I went from 4 grand a month to one.... Oh well. Spinal surgery caused me to tap out early. That and other health problems.
Rockwell? That sounds like it should have been a good place to work! At least I was able to finish raising the grand daughter! She is off to Cal State to become a RN. I cleaned out my saving to get her started. Bought her a used car and got her set up in an apartment just as the house I was renting was sold and we had to move. She is doing well for a 18 year old! Now I need to start selling pieces from my collection to make ends meet as well as give her money when I can. I still buy knives. Just not as many
or very often. Any way life is good!

.............when I started to work for them in 1955, it was delta power tools, not long after that they were bought out by Rockwell. the old cast iron delta tools are the best you could buy, but Rockwell immediately started to cheapen them up!!..................

I know what you mean. I have had mostly Porter Cable power tools. Handed down by family and friends. The seemed to last forever! I recently bought new Porter Cable tools and they have been cheapened up for sure..... I see the same thing with other brands that used be top shelf....
Hope you at least got a decent pension out of them....

For anyone interested. Camillus 72 1st Gen with what appear to be crack free bone handles. Seller claims good snap on all three blades. Main appears to be a skosh short & seller says it has a bit of wobble (that can be fixed).

Thanks Gregg! But feel free to bid. I only have a minimum bid and probably not going to win that bid. I keep telling my self not to buy more 72's but I can't help it
If I win with that bid I will be super happy!
