Went to the P.O. today, my weekly trip, and received what should have been a knife!! But it was only a padded envelope, with a mysterious hole in it!!
What should I think?? I have emailed the seller, and hope he will seek reimbursement!
I always ship in a sturdy box. These envelopes show little respect for a nice old knife!!

First off, you got my condolences, bud. It's a shame to lose a nice one, in that fashion.

I would LIKE to think, that the carrier (whomever it was), wouldn't accept an empty envelope, with a hole in it - so I doubt if the shipper tried to pull a sneaky.

I can easily imagine a p.knife being damaged in one of those envelopes...crushed, broken, bent, etc. But the chances of it being accidentally "pushed" thru the envelope AND the padding are pretty slim, I'd say.

Looks like larceny, to me. But, I'm a telephone man, not a postal inspector so whadda I know ?

i had that happen to me once before. i bought a knife off ebay and recieved an empty envelope but the envelope i recieved had wrote on it that it was recieved at the post office here where i live, empty. i assume it was shipped with the knife in it but somewhere along the line before it got to my home post office for delivery, someone had stolen it out of the envelope. anyway, i emailed the seller and they was very nice about it and issued a full refund the same day. i cant remember but i do think the item was insured. anyway, the auction said insurance included so i wouldnt think you would have any problem getting reimbursed although im sure you wouldve rather had the knife. anyway, good luck.

The seller just wrote to me. He has stated he will send me a full refund! That is as much as he can do, so I can't feel too bad.
Too bad about the knife.

Dang Charlie, that's terrible!! I had the same thing happen to me a while back, a guy sent a twelve blade Fightin' Rooster in one of those envelopes. Of course it was empty and torn to hell, with no sign of the knife. I think some people really believe that these packages get gingerly handed off from one person to the other until they arrive at your doorstep. What I don't undertand is why the mailman puts a torn up empty envelop in the mailbox. It sure would seem more prudent to start a trace at the moment they see it's empty and send a note explaining what happened. Just a case of passing the buck I guess. At least it was insured, but I'm sure you'd rather have that knife in you're hand

Geez Eric! A 12 blade Fight'n Rooster was worth a lot more than that old schrade! I hope it was insured!!???

Unfortunately no, and the seller pretty much flipped me the big fat bird on it. Said to take it up with the post office, it was out of his hands. I lost $90 on it, plus I was really looking forward to that knife! Pisses me off to this day. Now I insist on insurance, even if the knife cost me $25, and I still get knives delivered in those damned envelopes. I even had someone send a knife in the priority mail see through envelopes that are made to send, well, and envelope in! Of course the knife tore right htrough the plastic. Luckily it was in it's own little sealed manilla folder, and someone along the postal route had the forsight to rubber band everything together. I was lucky on that one, and sent the guy a note explaining how ridiculous it was to send a bulky item that way.

When you're expecting a knife that's a collectible and possibly hard to find, and you've invested the time to bid on it, pay for it, wait for it . . . then drive to the PO to get it . . . then you get shafted - that's a bunch of CRAP! I'm glad the seller is refunding the $$, but it's not the $$ you wanted, it's the KNIFE! I don't know what I'd do, but someone in the Postal Service is crooked - that's what I say.

Wel just the other day I went in to the post office and asked the postmaster how much would it cost to priority mail a package to a friend and he told me the price. Well when I went to mail the package I told him I wanted confirmation added to it. Then I though, it's Christmas time and the thieves working for the U.S.P.S. will be shaking and peeking into mailed boxes, so I told the postmaster that I wanted insurance put on the box as well. Well, while we were talking he asked me if I was sending some gunparts back (everyone around knows I fiddle with guns alot). I told him no, these are going to a friend. He said sure I can put you some insurance on it for you, how much do you want it insured for? I said for at least the sales price that the man payed for the package plus the shipping charge he payed for also. I said I want to get the mans money back to him a least if something gets gone. What he said next, I didn't know anything about and had never heard it before. He said, if you insure the package and something happens to it, all you have to do is prove that what ever you had in the package was worth the amount of the insurance that you put on it. I said well how do I prove that? He said Oh, a receipt, cancelled check, a credit card bill showing you had bought it with that credit card, or the copy of the money order that you keep when you send one to pay for something. Other than that the insurance WILL NOT PAY FOR THE PACKAGE! I though WTF... I said hell people mail things that they sell or give away to people that they might have had for 20 or 30 years, do you think they have proof of the value of the item 20 or 30 years later? He said I don't make the rules, I just go by them. I said so if I insure this package and can't show you a price on paper that I payed for what's in the package, the insurance wont pay anything on it? He said NO it will not pay. Can you believe that stuff?

the buyer can claim the package insurance limit with the recept he recieves from you. this is from personal experience. it's not a fast turnaround, though.

I would like to add if the item is damaged and you have proof it was insured and proof of value. and a big enough hole in the box that has to be properly packed. Then you will in time get the money you insured it for, BUT you will NOT be able to get the damaged item.

Here is one case to help you under stand me.

I was sent an old Schrade Out door scrimshaw set in a wooden case.
The wooden case was broken from some one dropping it on the corner.
I had no problem with the value or proof it was insured. The wooden box was placed on the bottom of the shipping box and packed very well on the sides and top. The P.O. said they will not pay do to the fact is was not packed well on the bottom and it was the sender fault. The seller was not in any mood to refund do to the P.O. miss use. The sender said I had to take it up with the P.O. insurance. I kept the box and repaired it the best I could. Cuz if the P.O. would pay in the end. They would keep all the knives. This was the main reason I went to pick up my last Schrade Store Display and not have it shipped. I did not want to loose these knives due to some ERROR in shipping.

don't let the seller drop you like that. If you paid by Paypal or any Credit Card, you can dispute it and win. You will always win.

The seller said he insured it, it is his responsibility to get it to you.
