Nothing special... I picked up this new-in-box 5OTG. I really like this pattern for a carry knife. Since it is pinned in the bolster, I'm suspecting Camillus actually assembled this pattern.

Dave, the lockbacks were all through pinned, it was a different method of construction that didn't use the Swinden system. Most likely that one was made at Schrade. They had a whole addition built at the old Schrade plant in Ellenville that was strictly LB7 and lockback construction.

It is interesting to me that the 55OT & 55UH are nearly identical on the outside except they are liner locks.
However the liner lock versions, (55OT & 55UH), are made with the Swinden key at the pivot end.

Schrade made several variations on that pattern.

Well, I just learned another new piece of information about Schrades. Thanks!

I was wondering why the tang stamp wasn't SCC+... which I have heard is an indication of a Schrade knife made by Camillus.

On the lockbacks the last pin installed during assembly was the blade pin. You would assemble the knife minus the blade, then squeeze the lockbar until you had enough clearance to squeeze the blade tang between the liners, sight the tang hole through the bolster holes, and slide the pin through. Then you'd test the lock, and if any adjustments had to be made you'd pull the blade pin and make adjustments.

On swinden construction the last pin installed is the center pin, which was done by squeezing the positioned spring into the the knife with an assembly fixture. The holes in the spring generally line right up with the holes in the liners with little adjustment, especially on a jack where the spring is already affixed to the knife via the butt pin. This is most difficult on a lockback because the lockbar is generally free floating (at least on Schrades), with the only pin holding it in place being the center pin. You can put the center pin in last by opening the blade and engaging the lockbar into the slot in the tang, but you have to then monkey with the blade position in order to line everything up.

I found some 53OTs some years back, I do not see many about now a days.
The 55OTG and 5UH were about in large numbers, about the same time..
All my files are to big to load, on this site...Ken

Ken, nice hoard of 53's!

Interesting grind on those blades to accomodate the thumb stud.

Dave, yes I've assembled a few, some Schrades, mostly Canal Streets. Probably something like 4-5000 pinches alone, along with all the other models.

I really like the Schrade Folding Hunter especially the single blade 125OT. These were also made for Chicago Cutlery and Federal Duck Stamp, and likely other markings as well.
Here is perhaps the most attractive 125OT i have seen, a 1992-93 "Federal Duck Stamp".

Here are 2 Chicago Cutlery P 22, single blade Folding Hunters. The frame matches up exactly with a 125OT but the high saber ground blade is not a standard Schrade blade grind. Could this be a Camillus blade ?
The Chicago Cutlery Folding Hunters came with 3 shield options: round brass shield, a 'shield' hot stamped into the wood like a steer branding, and no shield.
The other 125 here came from a Texas estate auction in the late 1980's. The handles are nicely customized ob both sides, one having the initials "JWG" which could indicate an infamous owner.

Enlarging the picture really shows how well the pattern & color on the camel bone suits this knife. This might well be the most attractive use of camel bone i have seen.
Pretty soon wild camels will feel right at home in the California desert and avid knifers will be able to supply their own bone.

I have been after one of these in good shape for a fair price for a while now, and finally found one, quite happy with it. Solid, snappy and with a nice honest patina.
