Here is my Dalmation. He's almost 12 y/o and he weighs 96 lbs. His name is Zorro. We rescued him from the animal shelter 10 years ago. He had been beaten and was severly malnurished. You could count every rib and when you tried to pet him he would cower down and shy away. BUT NOW If you don't pet him when you walk in the room he will get in your lap when you sit down.

Thank you Duffy. They ALL have touched my heart in one way or another so I would say ALL of them.
As to the breeding of duke;I'd have to ask my oldest son.It was his dog originally and was purchased by his second wife(or third;I don't remember).I think he still has the papers. We inherited Duke when he got divorced and had to move into an apartment.Duke was an outdoor dog always and we built him a huge run next to my shop. His dog house was nicer than a lot of people's homes
;fully insulated and built up off the ground with a heated water dish so it didn't freeze in the winter. My wife wanted to make him an indoor dog but he would have none of that.
He was probably the biggest wuss in the world. He loved to play but realized that Muttley was the alpha dog in the house. My youngest grand daughter used to wrestle with him;getting him in a headlock and bringing him to the ground. She was 6 or 7 at the time and she was his kid.The only time I ever saw him act protectively was around her.
He contracted bone cancer in his foreleg and he was too heavy to have it amputated.3 weeks later I took him over to the vet and was scratching him under his chin when he went to sleep. We buried him in the back yard next to our dog Brutus(a 100 lb. Black Lab that got heartworm and died before he could be treated.).
The saddest thing was that Muttley would run oout to his dog house every morning and look for him;not understanding where he was.I finally had to tear it down. When she passes, there is a spot for her right next to Duke.
I could go on and on about my dogs but it's bringing a tear to my eyes just thinking about them.Guess I'll end this one.

Heart touching story K7K. Let me tell you a long story about one of our pets. I almost lost my wifes' mini-chihuahua about a week ago. I opened the door to go out and bring in some firewood and she ran right behind me. I didn't see her get out. It was about 8:30 pm. and real cold. My wife was upstairs and I thought the dog was with her and the wife thought the dog was downstairs with me (which she was). About 5 minutes later my youngest son pulled into the driveway and came in. He spoke with me a minute then went upstairs with his mother. Then he came right back down and asked me if Daisy was with me. I said no, she's upstairs with your mother. He said no she's not. Then it hit me that she may have ran out of the house when I opened the door. We looked all over the property while calling for her. She had never been outside in her life. My son and I looked around all the neighbor's houses. We crawled under cars, houses, and outside buildings but never found her. We looked until 3:30 am. that morning, until we both froze out and had to go inside. My wife nor I slept that night and at daylight the next morning we started looking again. Even going over places that we had already looked. Still no dog. We called the local radio station and ran a ad for the missing dog. By this time My wife had cried so much that she couldn't even talk, I thought she was going to have a heart attack. We kept walking and looking all the next day and still no dog. On the night of the third day at about 11:00 pm I was sitting on the couch and feeling so guilty about losing this dog (she had one before this one that got into my coin collection and ate 3 dimes and a penny and died), and killing her first one with the coins, now I'm no Christian and don't claim to be but, I started praying to the lord right there on that couch and as fast as I asked God to please let it come back home, I heard what I thought was one little scratch on the front door. I ran to the door and almost knocked it off it hinges opening it, and there she was. She wasn't cold, dirty, shaking or anything. I grabbed her and up them stairs I flew. I yanked the bedroom door open and turned the light on. Buddy, you would have thought that my wife had hit the lottery for 900 million dollars.
Her and that dog was so happy to see each other again. Then she cried another 2 hours. I was one tired, worn out, releaved man that night.
But I learned a couple things from all that. #1 you have to watch those little dogs like a baby and #2 the main thing I learned was that there is a GOD in heaven to have faith in.
I seen and felt him work so, no one will ever make me believe otherwise. I'm sorry for writing you a book. I didn't mean to but, I ::blah:: all day long about the love of good pets. Keep faith and take care,

Duffy that is a touching story. Zorro the dalmation went missing for almost 7 full days once and we walked and drove the community over but didn't even get a sight of him. On the morning of the 7th day he woke me up barking wanting in.
K7K I am sorry to hear about your Rotty. I had a rotty that stayed in the house with us part of the time and outside part of the time. Her name was Maggie and she too had Cancer. Our dalmation (Zorro) would go out and look for her and even howl once in a while for several weeks after she passed. Here are a couple pictures. I apologize for the pictures not being real good they were taken with an older 1.2 mp camera several years ago.

Good pictures and stories, everybody. Keep them coming.
Here's my 2 furry little buddies. Angel was my Mother's cat. Before Mother passed away in '99, she asked me if I would take of her for the rest of her life. She the purrrfect pet.
Penny is my ridin' buddy. hard to get out the door without her. I keep a laundry basket with a pillow in it, in my truck for her to ride in.
They are both 13-14 years old. Wish I could have them cloned.

knife7knut, my Mother would argue with you all day long, that your dog is a Jack Daniels terrier. She said they were named after the whiskey.

Everyone's pet looks cute and looks like they're well loved to me
Bill my friend, did the cat and dog grow up together? I know when my wife inherited James, (a cat that my son got from the county pound to keep it from having it put down) that there might be a problem with those 2 meeting. Both were young when thet first met and I thought "the big fight is on now"
But buddy, they took right off to one another, never has been a fight between them. I'm not sure if the cat thinks it's a dog or the dog thinks it's a cat. They wrestle with each other all the time. If one doesn't wrestle around with the other, we know it's sick or getting sick. Hey Steve, my wifey said that my face looks like the face of the second dog you posted, when she wakes up in the morning.. I asked her how could she say what my face looks like the first thing in the morning with that BAG I KEEP OVER HER FACE that I make her wear to bed....

Great stories and pictures folks! There is a book out now by conservative radio talk show host Mark LeVin called,"Saving Sprite" that is supposed to be really good. From it's initial printing(which the company was reluctant to do)it has sold over 360,000 copies and it's only been out a couple months.Might be worth getting;I know I will as soon as I can get to a book store.
Anyway as long as we're doing stories,I'll give you a couple;one funny and one not so funny:
First one is about my Doberman named,"Kiddo". I didn't name her;our friends did. We had recently lost our Shepherd/Collie Junior to bowel cancer and my wife;who was going through an extremely difficult pregnancy was nearly beside herself.
Friends of ours were moving into a condo that didn't allow pets and so they were looking for a home for their 3 year old Doberman. As she had never been around children we were a bit apprehensive.
Our fears were for naught as she fit right in at our household although she wasn't too crazy about our two cats. In her mind, cats were prey. When she first arrived, they promptly vanished into the cellar for three weeks and refused to come up. Eventually an uneasy truce prevailed.
She did try and take on our neighbors cat who had a habit of sunning himself on our pool deck which was attached to the back of the house.Luckily all the cat lost was a large amount of white fur .It was a bit comical to see the dog with a mouthful of white fur and her nose in shreds from the cat's claws.Luckily the wounds weren't too serious.
Her one encounter with a "kitty" of a different kind would have been hysterical if it wasn't so scary. We let her out one night into our fenced in yard and the next thing we knew we heard her growling and then yelping. One of our foster children jumped off the deck to try and separate her from what he thought was a cat.Turned out she had bitten a skunk right on the ass and had taken a shot of scat right down her throat!
I managed to get herb into my car while my wife is frantically phoning the vet(a friend of ours luckily;it was 11pm).My V8 Pinto wagon's front wheels might have hit the ground several times during the 10 mile drive to the vet.
He managed to get her mouth cleaned out and pretty much descented and only charged us for the NINE cans of spray disinfectant he had to use on his office. The car NEVER had the smell completely removed.
Story #2 involves the first dog I ever owned.I was 7 years old when I got her and she had wandered into our neighborhood without a collar. She was a standard Beagle that looked as if she may have been purebred and about a year old.Her name was Mrs.Morgan(my grandfather's idea and I didn't question his ideas).
We had two cats already and she fit in very well with them. She was very territorial and did not like other dogs(no matter what size)encroaching on her front yard. Her one pal was a collie who lived down the street. They used to travel everywhere together(this was when you weren't required to keep your dog restrained).
One day just about dusk our neighbor who lived on the corner of our street(we were 4 houses down)came over to tell us that one of our cats may have been hit by a car on the main street. We went rushing out and sure enough our tiger cat(actually part Maine coon cat)was laying in the road on the other side. And standing over the cat was Mrs. Morgan apparently so another car wouldn't run over him again! She would only move when we went out and picked up Tiger.
Sadly his injuries were too bad and he died the following morning.Mrs. Morgan stayed with him all night.
Even my neighbor said he had never seen a dog doing anything like that in his life. Mrs.Morgan lived to be almost 19 and then one day just wandered away.We never saw her again. My mother(who had inherited her when my grandfather passed away while I was in the Navy)said that the local fire department had rescued her shortly before that when she was trying to cross a frozen brook and fell through the ice. They said she seemed really disoriented at the time.
I often wonder if she was trying to go back to where she came from or knew that her time had come and she simply went off to find a place to die. I guess I never will know.

She knows I'm joking with her. She always says if she would listen to me all the time, she would be walking around in circles & talking to her self

Hey Duffy...
My poor cat had never seen another critter before Debbie and Penny came along(about 7&1/2 years ago) For about the first week she sat under the kitchen table and made some TERRIBLE noises. Then she started to lighten up and realized Penny wasn't going to hurt her(even though, I did see her ride Penny down the hall, a time or 2).
Angel has become, quite the "social creature". Neither one of my Sisters can believe the change in her. The picture, of the 2 of them, on the couch, will never happen again. Penny just ignores her.
By the way. You may be a little surprised when you get your package.

I tell ya Bill, we have some of the best laughs from watching that cat and dog romping and playing. It's amazing he attached a human can get to their pets. You can't help but love them.
Oh Boy! a surprise!
Bill, you've already gave me the best surprise in the world. It's nothing that I can feel in my hand, it's something I can feel in my heart. And as Forrest Gump said, "even I know that's not something you find everyday".. I hope to find a way to repay you for the kindness you've shown me. It's good to know that there are down right good, caring people like you and Debbie still in this world. And as I said before, if there were more people like you and Debbie, this world would be a lot better place to live in. God Bless you and all your family Bill, Heaven knows you deserve it. Thanks and take care, duffy

Was a little hesitant to post this one but what the heck;we're all friends here right?
A little background first:There is an antique shop that I frequent located between where I live and where I do a lot of my paint work.I usually stop in there to see what is new(old)as I have found a couple of pretty nice knives there for cheap money.
Anyhow I'm coming back from a job one day and stop in and as I'm browsing I come across 3 taxidermy mounts:an armadillo,an iguana, and a Pomeranian! Not just ANY Pomeranian but one mounted on WHEELS! Now being someone has always been a bit on the bizarre side(it's in my contract;I'm an artist!) I think to myself:"Gee I bet that would make a great SHOP DOG." If nothing else it would get a laugh.
Long story short;I buy all three of them and take them home. My wife thinks it's a riot and says,"Well you know we have to name them now".
My oldest son comes over after work and sees them sitting on the bathroom counter(I had cleaned some of the dust off the iguana and armadillo by washing them in the sink)and thinks I have a sick mind.Hey what can I say;he knows me
Anyway I post my find on one of the message boards I frequent and a guy in Washington state wants to buy the armadillo for his wife;she COLLECTS the d*&n things! I wind up selling it to him for what I paid for it plus shipping and my youngest son(who lives in Massachusetts)wants the iguana. So now I'm left with "Fideaux(Fido in French)the Ferocious".
I removed her from the toy skateboard(the Ty-Wraps were hurting her feet)and got her a nice new skateboard that I decorated up.I also bought her the pink Metalflake sunglasses(at the antique shop) and a studded collar(at a local biker swap meet)but I had to paint it pink to match the glasses. I also bought a nice plastic display case that she occupies along with some vintage toy cars.I had to put her in the case because the shop gets really dusty and she doesn't like baths. My wife asked me the other day if I was going to bring her in the house for the winter because it is getting really cold out now. Ya gotta love her.
Anyway that's Fideaux's story;I hope you like her as much as we do.
(aside)Someone must have really adored her to preserve her like that(not a cheap thing to do if you can get it done at all. Most taxidermy shops won't do pets)so I am just doing my part in keeping her spirit alive.I don't think her original owner would have wired her feet to a kid's toy.
