I have a few Schrade Cot Co blades that have never been in a knife. There is two issues with them, surface rust and they are not tang stamped.dweb1897 wrote:Does anyone have any information on finding a full blade for the Cut Co Jack

Schrade Cut Co made at least two, & possibly three sizes in that pattern. I believe one was the same size as the later 2OT and one was smaller. What size do you have and I will check to see if I have one that might fit it.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Lloyd, those are some nice Schrades, love the bone.
Dweb, that is a real good find, not common at all.
Picked up this rope knife in decent shape, nice wood, full blade and still has some blade etch, Bosun's Mate. No pattern number, does that give a clue as to time frame?

The knife measures 3-1/2"
Thanks

Here's one similar to JohnR's. His has four pins, mine three.
Schrade

It has 163 stamped on pile side.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Joe, interesting that it only has 3 pins. I've got another that has 4 pins and the 163 pattern number however it has 2 brass pins and 2 steel, the first one I posted with no pattern number has 4 steel pins.

Time to resurrect this old thread. Might be good to confine it to pre-1960; ya think? Here's one that should qualify.

3 1/8 inch pen? Nice! The catalog cut is from the Schrade Cut.Co. catalog E and Supplements. I have a reprint of it which I use all the time, but it also exists on http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/Hak1911 wrote:Here's What I'm carrying around today

Just saw this one Dan, a real beauty, looks very similar to this one I got recently but my main blade has scratches.danno50 wrote:Picked this one up from Ray (Paladin) at the OKCA show this spring.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Thanks John. Yours is a great knife, very nice find!
I was going to comment on your earlier, but hadn't gotten around to it yet. They are very similar knives, even down to the variable coloring in the handles (which doesn't show up very well in my photos).
You sure seem to come up with a lot of great knives lately!

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
The 98OT Ramrod is the same knife as the 897UH, including having stainless steel blades.
The 897 is very common, sold millions, but i hardly ever see the 98OT which was sold for 15 years, 1982-97. I prefer the OT handles to the UH Staglon ones.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Thanks for insight kj!
This is the first 98OT I had seen become available, so I added it to my collection. I have no feel for how many are out in circulation, all I can do is see what is for sale at any given time, to get a sense of it.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Some of these knives sold at the 2004 auction to dealers are seeded out in batches occasionally to smaller dealers; I just recently noticed quite a few of these 98OTs hitting ebay over the last few weeks. The 898UH has no analogue; it was a hardware store contract and no other Schrade knife is the same size.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
Calvin, do you agree that the 98OT must have been a rather poor seller ? available for 15 years yet hardly ever seen (except a few recently)
And, the 898UH: there is no other Schrade that uses this frame ? Then it must have been a contract knife, built by another company. I did not know it is a rare one. Dave you are developing a good collection of Schrades and other knives as well. You've definitely been bitten by the 'Knife Bug'.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
I think the 898UH was made by Camillus. So was the 886UH, and for the same contract recipient, a hardware company. This info is buried somewhere on the 'other' forum, I believe.

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
When I saw the 898UH tang stamp - SCC+.... I had heard that those tang stamps were contract knives or parts made by Camillus. What is interesting, is there are no pins in the bolster... so, I assume the Swinden system was used? Which means that maybe the parts were made by Camillus and the final assembly was done at Schrade?

Re: What is Your Latest Old Schrade?
If it is Swinden construction then it was made at Schrade.
But, Camillus bolsters & liners would not be keyed for the Swinden pin & slot, so how was it done ?
Hopefully Dale or one of our other knife mechanics can help out here ?
