Here's a Bulldog Stag I picked up the other day. Real clean and I think 1st generation. With COA. Thick stag.

That actually looks like a 3 7/8 inch stockman. The 4 inch first generation 4 inch had square bolsters. 3rd generation had a 4 inch stockman. It looks like a first generation BKC 142 at 3 7/8 inch with a banner shield.

No documentation on a 4 inch stockman with round bolsters in the first generation. If it truly is 4 inch (hard to tell because we are talking 1/8 inch) then it has not been documented. I do have a few of those undocumented knives.

Perry, You have a nice knife there. I like that torched stag. A lot of the true 1st generation knives in that pattern have that stag that yours exhibits.
I am going to offer a personal opinion that I know many others may disagree with.
Your knife is worth more money without the COA. At the knife shows that I go to in Ky., Tn., and Oh., that COA will devalue the knife at least 30 per cent.
As I said, that is JMO and I am speaking only from my experience.

I have to agree with Tom 100% on his statement. That COA is worthless in my humble opinion, all that is accomplished, is covering up questions that have been floating around the last few years about the infamous "VAULT" knives. I am really sold on his explanation!!!

Yeah, I must agree with the last 2 guys, I have sent a few knives once to Tom to confirm/asess my opinion and give the opinion of others about a few Bulldogs. They know their Dogs!

Thanks guys, I had not heard that a COA could devalue a knife before. Burning it right now.

JK, that is interesting. Course its not really a COA its just something to keep the box from closing properly.
