Rusty Relic found in the backyard

[Another Knife Collector]

I found this picking raspberries in my backyard. Anyone have any idea how old this remnant of a table knife is? Genuine bone attached to genuine rust. I'd love to see some photos of similarly decorated handles if anyone has any, I know decorated bone handles were popular for quite a long time, but haven't been able to find any with this style/pattern of decoration.

Is that bone or ivory?

That is awesome!
I would research the local history and see which ethnic or cultural groups settled in that area.
It might not give you an answer directly, but I think it might put you on the track of the source of the knife, or others like it.

Looks a bit more like ivory than bone, the reason I say that, is that bone will rot with time and Ivory not so much. Neat old find! Terry

Nice knife!

Finding knives in the most random of places can be pretty exciting. My other Mark II Fighting Knife, a WWII, and I'm thinking Kabar or Robeson, was found outside a shed alongside random gardening tools and some trowels.
