Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Thanks TJ!!
It should be mentioned that they each used one of the scout/camp knives you bombed me with a while ago....
I keep them in a 5 finger cigar case and open up the case before each mission allowing them to choose what they want to carry.
They select the one that makes them feel like they will gain super hero powers!
I think of YOU my knife friend, every time I reach for that case.....
Yours are soon to be next JerryD! They're begging for those....

Responded to an ad on craigslist for FREE WOOD (I have it saved and I'm notified when someone posts that in my area).
Called my nephew and we took his truck to pick up a few pieces.....
I finished chopping the whole load last night (took me 2 visits to his house to accomplish this).

I believe on May 31st I planted the grandson's food plot and up dated a couple of times checked out yesterday and they have grown quite a bit, still haven't put on any blooms but that comes very late on this variety of cowpea. I could see where the deer have been browsing as some of the tops are clipped off. These Iron and Clay peas will probably be plowed under around the 1st of October to make way for a cool weather crop.

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
I am surprised that someone in Florida is splitting & stacking his firewood. I thought this was more of a Northern necessity.
Scott, how often do you need to fire up your wood heater ? Do you use it to get the winter dampness out of the house ?

Seeing the split firewood, reminded me that I bought my 1st really good axe this year. A Gransfors Bruks Hunters Axe. Made the old school way, in Sweden. Great little axe for chopping duty and has the rounded flay poll for skinning. I still need to add a splitting axe yet.

Recent fishing photos from the last year... fished Lake Michigan up off of Rowley's Bay, Door County and BWCA with my son. Got 10 four yr old Chinook (King) salmon and some nice Walleye and Smallies up in Northern Minnesota. Both times, we camped in the motorhome. Good times!

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
Caught that 28.5" and a 25.5" in late June up in the Boundary Waters. They get 30" ones there but we didn't hook one. We were Lindy rigged with a Super Jumbo Leech, about 1'-2' off the bottom. Ironically, the spot is marked... Big Fish Spot. Pinch point between shore and an island. I'm not kidding, that is what the spot is called. We put those big females back in, after resuscitating them.
We caught eater size Eyes and multiple Smallies. No Pike. I tried but they were not biting for some reason. I had 3 follow the big lures to the boat, tried figure 8'ing them but no dice.

Re: Outdoorsman Thread
I'll tell you what! After living in South FL for 18 yrs and enjoying the ocean fishing there... with some great eating species. Grouper, Snappers, Wahoo, King Mackerel, Dolphin, Tilefish, etc. The freshwater fish there tasted muddy to me and I think it's because the water temp is so high.
For freshwater fish, you just can't beat these northern, cold water fish... off the top of my head... Lake Perch, Kings, Eyes & Northern Pike are all fantastic table fare.

You can have all the Trout you want! But I'll fight for my share of Salmon. My son and I caught 10 Kings and brought home 106 lbs of fillet. All portioned and vacuum sealed. I needed a bigger freezer.
I can tell you Lake Perch are probably my #1 favorite "eater" freshwater fish. Can't remember having White Perch but I'll bet they are really delicious!

Catfish!!! Now were talkin'!! I caught a nice eater size Channel about 3 weeks ago, while fishing for Eyes... He went from wigglin', to the skillet in about 45 mins.
Well, I've tried to correct the rotation of these pics but the software gods have other plans. Sorry!
Edit: Jerry fixed it for me! Thanks!!!
