Two Jumbo Sod Busters

These 2, a Schlieper and a Freidr. Herder are rarely seen in this size.
Eye Brand, Carl Schlieper, 5 7/8", with "D.R.G.M./1423929". This is the German patent number that could be looked up if you know how. I don't know what feature of this knife it refers to. Using a loupe, the edge is highly polished rather than the belt sander striations seen with a factory edge. I am the second owner. The original owner polished the edge, likely with a jig as it is perfectly even and follows the original edge perfectly. It shows no sign of having cut anything. It is sharp.
Walk/talk are as expected with a big knife: strong but no where near a nail breaker. 100% solid in the open position.
Beautiful knife.
Next is a 6" "Friedr. Herder Abr.Sohn" Sod Buster Clasp knife. Full length blade, strong walk and talk and totally solid in open position. If you search "Herder" on ebay make sure you get the right one, there are a few "Herder" knife manufacturers, but only Friedr. has the Spade logo.

Search ebay for "Herder" and find the Friedr. Herder Abr.Sohn sod busters. Most are 4 5/8" size and asking prices are from $200 to $800 !
These are very well made heavy duty knives but not more so than Schlieper or Henckels. Somehow ebay knife shoppers are 'ga-ga' for Friedr. Herder knives.
$140 for this very large 6" size is a crazy good deal in today's 'market'.
