Case Consumer Relations

Post by BamaFatman »

I sent Case an email asking some questions about this about this knife. In the Pocket Knife Traders Guide it list for about $20. But that didn't seem right to me. And I was right, It's not worth a fortune but it's about $50 in price.

Here is the email I got from Case.

Jody, Case made a Historical Bicentennial Collection of knives for South Carolina in 1976. They were all Sod busters and we made knives with 56 different blade etchings. I do not know all of the blade etchings, but there were 200 knives made with each blade etching. Current value is in the $50.00 range.

I've had occasion to use the knowledge & resources of the Case customer service dept. from time to time. They have always been
kind & courteous, willing to help answer a question or two.
If I had to leave a message instead of getting a live person, I always
get a call back.
That level of customer service from a large company means a lot to me & is appreciated. And worthy of our collective support imho. 8)

customer service is the most important next to the quality of a product. I think alot of companies have lost site of that.

I believe that those Sod Busters were actually made for JC Penney. Believe it or not, in the 70's JP Penney stores (the larger ones) had sporting goods sections and sold guns and knives.

If I remember correctly they sold ammo also. As a kid I do remember Sears, Montgomery Wards, and Pennys selling outdoors supplies as well as guns and ammo. Best Buy is another, I did buy a Remington 7400 semi auto 30-06 in 1981 in San Jose. Bought it and walked out the same day.

As a kid I do remember Sears, Montgomery Wards, and Pennys selling outdoors supplies and one big thing with me is. The clerks shot many guns them self. Not like K-Mart or Wally World that have clerks that have no idea what a left hand gun is or ever shot a gun in their life.

Want to really confuse them, just say you want a southpaw model.  They don't have a clue, usually.

I think they're customer relations are great, just recieved a 1980 6318 that I bought for $5 from a local fellow, had a broken back handle and a broken sheepsfoot, looks EXCELLENT now, new CV blade, back handle, knife is polished perfectly, best $5 knife you ever saw. They're strictly warranty right now, no general repairs (too bad).

  You'd be surprised at how many dumb looks or blank looks I get when I use that term. I'm not a lefty, but I do use that term when I'm working with a salesperson who's not listening to me and diligently trying to sell me something I don't want, usually a more expensive version of what I want.

We must be speaking to people who have attended the same schools.Sometimes I feel like I have landed on another planet when I try and converse with a sales(?)person.

While attending a craft show this past weekend,I was amusing myself by painting various objects that had been supplied to me for sale to support a museum my sister-in-law curates.

One of the items was an old zinc-plated water pail. I lettered on one side," Jack & Jill Water Transfer Company" - "No hill too high for us to climb". People would come by and stare at it saying,"Nice job" but they had no clue as to what it meant.

I did a couple of other equally obscure pieces but didn't really have any fun as no one understood the humor. Guess I'm getting too old.

K7K,
Sometime back I heard a good way to tell if you're getting old(er).
When we are young (er) we holler "oh boy! let's go!".
When we get older it changes to "oh no, do we have to go?"
