Here's my latest build fresh off the bench, I haven't even fired it yet. It's a single shot 30-06. Just a guess but, I'm thinking it weighs about 12 lbs.

I started out with this receiver that I found on gun broker.

I finally got around to shooting this rifle. I fired 50 rounds of "Tubb Final Finish" bore Lapping bullets, running a couple patches through after each 5 rounds. I was easily getting 1" groups @ 100 yards. A better shooter could reduce that by half.

Cool Ken. I have also read this can be done on older barrels. I guess it is possible to "re-breakin" a barrel.

Leather holster tip:
Get a new leather holster and gun won't fit or slide in? Put gun in plain plastic shopping bag and slide in holster to where you want it. Leave overnight. Done.
Bag reduces friction to seat all the way without jamming it in there. Breakin overnight does the rest.

I'd have to agree with that statement Jerry! With all the hoopla and disinformation going on concerning rifles built on the Armalite design, I decided to renew my long acquaintance with them by buying a Ruger AR556 this past week. OH

Nice AR, Old Hunter. I always thought I was a "walnut and blued steel" guy.....until I shot a friends AR. Then I had to have one. I bought a Colt LE6940 a few years back and stuck a Nikon scope on it. I think a person ought to be able to enjoy the best of both worlds!

Agreed Unk - I'm definately a walnut/blue steel guy, but these AR's have their own good looks in their functonal design. I've gathered up enough ammo in various loads/brands to go out and test the rifle - hope to soon. OH

I bought a Stoeger X-10 air rifle in .177 caliber with a 4x32 Stoeger scope.

I'm going to attempt to reduce the chipmunk population in my back yard.

I made some targets using a CD as a template and set one up twenty yards from my bedroom window, which will be my shooting box. (Air guns are not legal here.... .)

Problem is, my dominant right eye is not working well and will not be fixed until August 4th. I'm having a hard time seeing anything of the target except the 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper. It's attached to a heavy duty black leaf bag full of pine straw and debris. Pellets are not passing all the way through.

I've gotten the groups centered, but elevation not yet right, still shooting a bit low.

Thinking this will be fun after I get good with it. Been a long time since I shot anything.

One of the guys at church and I had some gun fun after church today. It was a blast. He brought the M&P 45, M&P 22, and the Sig 320. I brought the Soringfield XDs 45 and the S&W 65. We had a great time.

Charlie, you will enjoy that air rifle - I have one for the same purpose (also not legal in town). I'm always shocked at how much report it has - nearly 22LR level.

I have an old Crosman 760 BB & .177 pellet gun that is very loud, too.

I bought some CCI .22 short "quiet" rounds a couple of months ago and shot them through my Remington 550-1. They are only 710 FPS, and the accuracy drops off after 40 or 50 yds, but they are very, very quiet. The only thing you could hear was the bolt cycling.

The note below says it will not cycle semi-auto firearms, but my vintage 1957 Remington 550-1 ran like a sewing machine on this stuff - so I guess it is dependent on the rifle. Of course the 550-1 is made to shoot .22 short, long, or long rifle. It should work fine in any bolt action .22.

So, now I have the scope zeroed at half the distance from the house to the back fence, which is 1" pressure treated pine, shadow box built.

Theoretically, it should also be zeroed at the fence.

So, shoot a touch high on the ones up close and a touch low on the ones closer to the fence. Zero the rest.

I've got my fields-of-fire set so the fence is always a backstop.

The scope rings on this do not allow use of the very nice and well illuminated iron sights.

After I get my vision back, I think I'll try it without the scope.

The reviews I read said it would quieten down after a couple hundred shots.

My air rifle experience:
Two years ago the kids wanted to know what to get me for Christmas, I than suggested an air rifle would be kind of nice to keep the critters out of the garden as I also live in town. Plus it would be a good way to ride out the present .22 cal ammo situation.

Under the tree was an RWS 350 Magnum, I was expecting something that would have been on sale at Wally World.

After much trial and error I have finally got this thing figured out.

In order to reach the advertised velocity's the manufacturer will use the lightest pellets. The lighter the pellet the louder the shot will be.

Air rifles are goofy when they go off, mine seems to recoil ahead, a little to the rear and also roll clockwise all before the round leaves the barrel. This makes for some large groups while shooting from a bench rest as I was used to using regular rifles. Putting the fore end on a foam pad was a help as it was starting to think the air rifle scope was bad. All my shooting was done at 32 yards.

The pellets I was getting had no consistency when loading, one would fit fine, next seems loose, next would be tight. Doing research on line I ran across Pyramid Air in Ohio and between the blogs, tips and the store they really helped me out.

I now shoot JSB Exact pellets 10.34 and 13.43 grains in .177 cal. The heavy ones are more " backyard" friendly as far as noise.

Your mileage may very, have a good time with new rifle.

Now, I'm a bit more shaky than when I was young.

I'll get this figured out.

Right now, I'm shooting Crossman Premiers, but I'm getting multiple suggestions re' different pellets.

I'll check on-line for the ones you've mentioned.

I never could get used to the weird recoil of a spring gun, finally sold it and years later got a pcp, MUCH better!

Finally got a bayonet lug adapter in today - this one is a variation of a stock item made by Triple R Products in Beavercreek OH - it extends the bayonet lug on a 16" barreled AR-15 style rifle to allow the normal amount of blade to extend beyond the muzzle and also to adapt to the slightly oversize lug that is being made for the Ruger AR-556 (you cannot snap a M-7 bayonet on the factory lug). This customized adapter handled both issues for me - as a knife man I think a bayonet on an AR just looks right. OH

TJ, I have no idea. It was marked in German, but the images of that mark left my head many years ago.

It was a single stroke, spring powered boy's rifle, not an adult air gun. The front sight, which was a post & bead, was loose and would tilt in any direction about 10 degrees, but I could still hit with it.
