I'd have to agree with that statement Jerry! With all the hoopla and disinformation going on concerning rifles built on the Armalite design, I decided to renew my long acquaintance with them by buying a Ruger AR556 this past week. OH

Way to go Colonel. I think we are drawn to the weapon we trained with and carried during our enlistment. Mine is the M-14/M1A. Ten years ago when I sold my house I had money falling out my back pocket and was on the verge of buying an M1A but ended up talking myself out of it. I would still like to have one but with no place to shoot it and not being able to see the sights/target at the same time, at my age it's really a ridiculous waste of money.

Good stuff Joe! My 31 year old daughter will proudly tell you she owns a Colt revolver and a Winchester rifle (both 22LR and gifts from many years ago).

Jerry, I'd also love to own a Springfield Armory M1A. I've looked at them many times, but at a low of $1,600.00 plus tax, I have never "pulled the trigger" - pardon the pun!

Bruce congrats on getting that sweet Ruger. I too recently was bitten by the AR bug and ended up with a AA15 from Adams Arms. Unlike you, I had no prior experience with the platform, but I think I'm gonna like it.

Joe, I had a Smith Mod. 19 but gave it to my son. It's a fine, fine piece of gear.

....jerry, the only place I can shoot is at a friend's home outside the city limits, he has a backyard with a dirt mound at the rear of the yard, it's about 40 yds.; with my .44-40 henry, I can put 15 rds. in a 4" circle, but with the .22, I do good to hit the 12 X 12 target........I don't understand it, so I blame it on old age!!............. .................

I'll fall in the column behind Jerry on the M-14, for the same reason. Some where in my USMC activities in the mid 60's, we fired a familiarization course with the "Mattel Toy", nobody in the Engineer company cared a hoot about the M-16. Never was issued an M-16, even in the Reserve unit later on.
Coincidentally, my brother-in-law who visited this passed weekend brought an AR for us to shoot, he loves them! He has 4 of 'em, he knows how to work on 'em but I'm not impressed with them, personally . The trend now in a lot of
Florida hunting circles is shooting the platform rifles, the reasons are obvious, they are very popular and a lot of folks trained with them, just like Jerry said. Forgive me, but an AR to me is like a tactical pocket knife, usable, functional but with no appeal to an old traditionalist . Give me a bone handled folder and a walnut stocked rifle .

Very cool Joe. Great thing for Dad and Daughter to share. My dad taught all my sisters gun safety, shooting and hunting. The shooting (and safety ) part stuck with 2 of them to this day.

Wonderful old 22's. I'm with you there. I just love old 22's. About the only thing that matches them is an old Marlin 1894c in 38/357. Those are my favorites to shoot.

I have been tempted by the AR bug a few times. But I never pulled the trigger. I did shoot one once and I was very impressed with how ergonomic the thing was. It was very easy and comfortable to shoot. Perhaps some day, but like TF some nice bone handled pocket knife or walnut stocked old workhorse will come along and deplete my funds before I get the AR.

Yeah, I have no trouble passing on synthetic stock guns or tactical knives. I did like those two Mark 1's even though they look modern. The stainless one appears unfired and in perfect condition and I didn't know what it was when I bought it. I looked it up and thought it was a mark 2 but was corrected by a gun dealer friend who said I underpaid by quite a few hundred dollars. Then I had to have a black one to go with it. I'd love to have all the variations of the Ruger Mark 1's. ____Dave

Lookin' at the 22s that has Dave laid out on the bed causes me to remember one of the many regrets I tote around in my back pocket. Those 2 standard Ruger 22 pistols cause me to remember what great shooters they are and makes me wish I had not traded off the ones I've owned . They have such a good feel and balance in my opinion, hard to beat, especially at the price they used to be, however I traded one for a Colt Commander, that was a good deal, then traded the .45 for an almost new Craftsman radial arm saw. I bought another Ruger and then later on traded it for an Electric Wheel farm wagon gear, which was another fantastic trade. Built our house using the saw and picked corn and fed cows with the wagon for years. Still have the saw and the wagon, but at this point I would rather be fondlin' the old Ruger 22s .

My MK-I is a 1981. I bought it new about that time. I did (or do) have a second one. I bought it for dad and it came back when he died. I can't remember if it went to one of the kids or not. I kinda remember it did and then came back. Old mush for brains don't remember so good these days.

I too have a Mark II 5 1/2 bull, just recently I traded a 6 7/8 in. government towards a Sig 938. Back when I used to shoot NRA bullseye that government model with a red dot on it was quite the pistol. Red dots make older eyes young again. Mike

Has anyone on here had a look or maybe bought the new S & W 22 auto, Victory? I've only seen pictures and read a few things on the innerweb. Seems like a well designed pistol priced within reason. If anyone has one, what do you think?
