Grandpa's Case XX skinner

Post by waggo71 »

I got into the safe recently and this caught my eye...Grandpa used it on the farm in West Virgina and my uncle sent it to me back 6-8 years ago or so when he was getting rid of some stuff he didn't need. Pleasant surprise then and always puts a smile on my face when I see it now. Grandpa lived a rich, full life and moved on just a few months shy of 100. No doubt this knife and he had many an adventure that ended with meat on the table...

That's a great old family heirloom.

Philco, yes indeed. It was a working farm with cattle, sheep and hogs. My mom has memories of hogs hanging in the butcher shop (one of the several outbuildings that they had) from hooks.

Your grandpa was better at sharpening his hog killing knife than mine was! This was his.

Maybe his hogs had tougher hides...either way that one sure has seen plenty of action.

 Well, these aren't grandpa's , they are mine, all but one. My favorite one is the F. Dick hog skinner. I used the Dexter/Russell Green River knives a lot also. The sheep skinner got hid under a quarter of beef and I sawed the handle off with the band saw!! Good thing I didn't hit the tang, I glued it back on about 30 years ago and it has held up. Don't do much butchering any more but still have the equipment. Nothing fancy but they did the trick. ::handshake:: Terry

That's a good pick, I would put the Henckels right up there with it, I love the colors in that steel...
