I have a Cody case tested xx with the long c stag fixed blade knife
I have a Cody case tested xx with the long c stag fixed blade original knife. It has been handed down through my family, it's from 1932. Right now its worth $275-$300. Should I hold it fr 10-20 years and then sell it. Do you think it would be worth more?

I think you should hold onto for 10-20 years and then keep it.

Its possible a Case whale will come by and
shoot down this answer......
But "CODY" is likely no more than
an engraving for someone named Cody..
costing value OFF this knife
Another detraction to value is that
sheath NOT being original..
In keeping with a common action
round here of breaking newbies' hearts.....
I'd say yer knife is worth 75-100 . .
That IS NOT AN OFFER...
repeat NOT AN OFFER to purchase ..

Thanks for your inputs. The case does not go to it. I looked up the value on this site and what cody stands for. There are a few that were marked with the names Carson, Cody a few more I can't remember. It is just a name that the company case put on in the 1932 time period. The value on here is $275-$300, for this specific brand knife with the cody stamp.

MrB I can't believe you would besmirch the surname of Buffalo Bill in such a manner as that.

Re: I have a Cody case tested xx with the long c stag fixed blade knife
Welcome to AAPK! Nice old knife, and not one seen often. Case did in fact offer a series of fixed blade knives engraved with Cody, Carson, Scout, etc. Dates from pre-1934 as you know. I don't know much about the current value so I won't speculate there.
Hard to predict but I'd say if you hold it 10-20 years, it will probably be worth more. I'd also say the dollar will probably be worth less. In my experience collecting knives for 45+ years, the values of most knives do well to keep even with inflation. There are exceptions, but your knife isn't likely to be one. Just my opinion. Your mileage may vary!

I have a Cody and a Carson. They were made that way by Case way back in history and was in memory of Kit Carson and Buffalo Bill. I too would keep them but not everyone hangs on the family treasures like I do. I'd make sure someone else in the family wouldn't treasure it more than you do before selling it. It may go up a little but probably not as fast as inflation.---Dave

Yeah those book values are for mint condition knives and most times are a little inflated anyway. I am going to say you are about right.MrBlister wrote:Yep Gregg . . yer right .. only thing worse wud be a Husainee Cody .. LOL

275-300 for a mint or at least near mint with the original sheath. Your knife is far from mint cond. with the grinder marks on the blade. Condition is everything on these old knives.

Re: I have a Cody case tested xx with the long c stag fixed blade knife
Your Case Tested Cody is a very hard to find split stag model as well as an early Case hunting knife. Although condition is primary in collectibles rarer items will often command higher prices even when not in the best condition. The blade although not mint appears to be very near full and the stag handle looks to be in great shape. Overall the knife looks to be in near excellent or better condition.
I would think that your Cody knife would be worth at least $150 in it's current condition without the original sheath. I think it would prove difficult to find a better example for less than that.
As Ken said, "Hard to predict but I'd say if you hold it 10-20 years, it will probably be worth more. I'd also say the dollar will probably be worth less."
Keep it if you like it but I wouldn't hold on to it thinking it will be worth substantially more in the next 10 to 20 years.

I agree with Wayne 100%...do not see many Cody's up for sale...its unreal how much
better this knife is built even from a 1965-69 era Case XX straight blade knife !!!
I know I would not take less than $150.00 for mine, in a stock Case sheath but this knife came
in the Case sheath that has the deer head on it and is marked Case's Sportsman on it
here is a front and off side pic of mine

Here are the Cody and the Carson with the Carson sheath. I assume the Cody sheath would look the same only shorter. ___Dave
Re: I have a Cody case tested xx with the long c stag fixed blade knife
I am a little slow. I just noticed my knives are not stag. I know I have a Case of that ear that has stag but apparently it isn't the Cody or Carson. Now I have to dig in the safe to see what the Case stag looks like. You guys sure cause me a lot of work. ___Dave

Thank you all for your inputs. I will probably hold it until I am hard up for money, if that time comes. Thanks again for the information
