EXCELLENT knife danno50!!
A pocket knife is still an intimate personal possession of the individual who carries it and consequently deserves the best of materials, finish and workmanship in its production. (Quoted from Boker's 1928 cutlery catalog).

Tommy, you reminded me of this old Imperial scout with compass I have. The compass still works!

Recently acquired this one. Premier Lifetime K78 scout pattern, made in Germany. I've seen a couple of these before and have another one but it's not in near as good condition as this one. Never sharpened. It may have been lightly carried,

Ken, your Premier Lifetime scout knife is very nice. Besides looking good, it looks very sturdy.

Ken, you are hitting it out of the park with your Premiers just lately. You should post this in the Premier thread as well so that the other enthusiasts don't miss it. That's also an interesting groove on the awl, I'm not sure that I have seen that before. cheers

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
Thanks Lawrence. I was pleased to get the Premier scout - it's a substantial upgrade from the other one I have! Per your suggestion I posted it on the Premier thread.Lawrence wrote:Ken, you are hitting it out of the park with your Premiers just lately. Here's another scout pattern I posted on the Crown Cutlery thread. I'll post it here also for the scout knives collectors, as it's a rare one as far as I can tell.

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
Nice!
Unusual to see a scout pattern with a clip master blade.
I have a couple of Case Tested XX scouts with red fibroid handles that I got from olderdogs1 a while back. One of them has a clip master. He and I both were thinking its master blade may possibly have been replaced. Now I'm not so sure.

Union Cut Co. in Pearl, matchstriker long pull stamped KA-BAR. The punch and the screw driver stamped Union. The screw driver also has the Prestolite key. Couple nicks in the Pearl, but no major cracks or chips.

Ken and SK, thanks for the interest in the KA-BAR. SK yours is only the second one I have ever seen in pearl. I am attaching photos of a Kent, certainly not a brand everyone is searching for. The condition and the salesman sample marking is worth a look.

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
A good friend of mine was at the Case show in PA this weekend and showed off his beautiful Nickelsilver Case Bradford and his copper Challenge version. Apparently Case does not even have one of these scout knives in the museum and they went on about how rare it is to possess either one, especially the Challenge version of this knife.ScoutKnives wrote:I believe the knives were made by their respected factories because the blades are very different between the two makers but how they came to have the same handles is the big unanswered question .Mumbleypeg wrote:Thanks! The only Challenge version I have seen previously is pictured in Holbrook's book. Until now I wasn't aware there was a copper version. Anyone know how Challenge and Case both came to have essentially the same knife? I'm thinking maybe one of them made them all, e.g. probably Challenge made them for Case under contract?or as Ron suggests, maybe someone else (like Schrade or Camillus) made them.
Thanks to both of you for the pictures. Now I have even more to look for!![]()
Ken
As for the copper handled version I've only seen 3
On the topic of the 2 versions - Case Bradford Scout and Challenge Scout - someone from the museum knew the history. Apparently, Challenge actually produced the Case Bradford Scout for Case and the blade configuration was specifically requested by Case. So in effect, Challenge was the originator of this amazing scout scene and knife pattern. Mystery solved!

Re: The All Scout Knives Thread
Ron, my thanks to you for posting that update on the origin of those wonderful old knives. I'm still looking for the Case and the other Challenge version to compliment the one I have. It's been a while since that old post you quoted, so for benefit of those that don't recall it or didn't see it then, here's my Copper handled version. It also has the master blade etch, but fainter than yours. If you enlarge the picture below, you can see it.
