More Case Tested knives with bails

An excellent collection of knives!

I really like that folding hunter with the can opener and screwdriver - don't see to many of those. That large equal end with a clip on one side and spear on the other is cool too.

Out of a grand total of 3 Case tested knives I have , one has a bail. Its a 3246R. Just got it in the mail from a fellow AAPK member.

Below is some text from a posting that I made on another forum regarding older Case knives with bails:

I once owned a Case Tested era catalog, in which it was stated that the factory would produce any pocket knife pattern with a bail on special order, for an added cost of $1.20 per dozen knives.

A long time ago I clipped (from EDGES magazine, I believe) a picture of an original intact Case factory display board from the Case Tested era (owned by a collector), and almost every knife on the board had a bail, including stock knives, folding hunters, automatic knives, etc....and none of these patterns were normally made with bails so (I assume) they were all special ordered that way.

An amazing display board under any circumstances, and it led me to wonder WHY a dealer would order all of those knives with bails...in other words, what was different about the clientel of this dealer that those who purchased pocket knives of various patterns would require them to have bails installed. A mystery and its what makes the collecting game so interesting.

I do not know to what extent Case continued to offer the bails as a special order add on through the Case XX, Case XX USA, and 70's eras. I have owned all of the older Case catalogs and noe of them after the Tested era catalog mentioned it. I have seen a few XX and newer stamped knives over the years with bails that appeared to be factory installed (patterns that were not normally offered with bails). In particular I have seen mid 70's examples of the 6217 and 11031SH patterns, and a few others.

those are some great knives--close-ups please..
be nice to see in person i bet a person could stare at um for hours..

is the knife in the first pic--two knives above the case emblem is it some type of auto knife or is that the lock on it??

hey remington collector i think i saw that knife of yours on ebay along with the prettiest wr case pearl whitller thats a nice one there..

You are correct - I sold that 3246 to Remington Collector....I bought a lot of 3 knives to get the prize - a WR Case 83109 3-backspring whittler.

that whittler is a true keeper nice catch
if you ever took some more pics of it i would sure like to see them it is a beauty..i would say a very rare find in that condition..
