New GEC's
Here's some photos of several new GEC's. The first is the "Blue Oyster". The second is the "Smokey Pearl", bioth of which are acryllics. The third is the large 23 pattern in "Red Bufallo Horn".

Nice knives Jim, I'm cerainly an advocate for the use of acryllic handles. IMO, they can do everything celluloid can except OUTGAS! The technology for plastics and acryllics has been developing very nicely and the knife industry has been slow to accept or respond to these materials. The first user of acryllics as far as I can remember was Bulldog Brand in 1992 and then again in 1998. Of course my memory has been running a mite slow lately.

I have seen some #10 sheath knives on ebay.

GEC'S
I was told no more than 200 #10 sheath knives would be made for 07. I doubt if they will meet that quota.
RIP Johnnie Rotten

That's a good question becuase not all acryllics are the same. I have used some that you would literally have to beat to death in heavy industrial production equipment, some are very thick and used in those huge tanks at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and I suspect that they used it on that new one, in Georgia I think it is. Any how, they are strong enough to hold back millions of gallons of water. I have some acryllic material that was sent to me to try out, dead ringer for the Red Sparkle celluloid that Bulldog used in the first generation. I'm gonna have to just try it out. I would like to be able to find data sheets on both celluloid and the aryllics. I suspect that the acryllics would come out equal to or better than celluloid.Edgewise wrote:It's a good alternative to celluloid, but generally, how does it stand up to hard use?Hukk wrote:... Beautiful knives, Jim.
I'd definitely go for the " Smokey Pearl. "

Mike there are 3 that I have seen, the #10 is out now and there is the #50 & #60 coming soon. They are larger than the #10. One is a Clip blade like the #10 the other is a Drop point.mikek wrote:Nice knives Jim, Do you or any of our other GEC dealers know how many sheath knives will be made for 07 ? Just woundering. Very nice Jim!! Excellent photos..................
Where can a guy get his hands on one of those Buffalo Horn bad boys?
If you don't mind, I'll post my new GECs here also. Maybe we can just keep this thread going with GECs. Or has there been one started?
Gary
P.S. sharp as a razor, finished out sweet, no problems...................

Re: New GEC's
You know, I just realized there is a large gap in my display case over by the blue knife section.... and I don't have a GEC.Forensic Jim wrote:Here's some photos of several new GEC's. Well, Jim...I am impressed. The pics get better and better. That Red Buffalo is AWESOME. I am thinking I should have stuck around a little longer with them!

Here are a couple of Stag GECs I just received, the #23 and #73 models.
These are from the "Genuine Stag" line. Both are engraved with the number 12 on the bolster, I understand there were only 13 of each made. They come with a UN-X-LD hat pin, rather than a shield on the handle.
The blade etching on the 23 is a little light, but other than that, all is good!

Gary,
Why do you think they are cutting off the texture of the stag? I have seen several like this lately and it just kills me. Just looks like the good high stag texture was cut off by a course saw.

You know, I questioned that myself. Here they use this beautiful stag with all kinds of texture, and like you say, ground off or sawed off some of the ridges.
Here is the back label of the tube the knife comes in. I think they try to explain why they do it, although not very clearly. In trying to keep the "slimmer look" to the stag, they remove some of the natural texture!
Sounds like a question for the minds at headquarters.

I remember when I posted about a Bulldog BKC 149B, I think it was GECTECHMAN asked if I preferred Thick or Thin stag as that knife had almost 1/2 inch scale, if memory serves my right. Well on a small knife thin works great and if stag is on a big knife, either will work. But you CAN find thin stag without grinding off the texture.
BUT, I don't want 1/2 inch stag on a 3.5 inch congress.
Grinding of the stag texture?

Grinding of the stag texture?
