ink eraser

I've never bought anything like this before,but saw this on Ebay BIN and pulled the trigger .Tang stamped Napanoch Knife Co., ebony handled,and etched Board of Education New York. Also came with a leather pouch with a metal lip around it.Pattern #on the back tang of 014.

Roger, very nice! Every Napanoch I have come across seemed to be extremely well made. Here is an image of your Ink Eraser from a Napanoch Catalog. I added the Blue text just in case you couldn't read the poor copy of the catalog text description.

Nice Roger - and with an etch ... funny you mentioned you never bought anything like this before... well yesterday while at an antique fair I picked up my first as well and never even saw this post until today - I picked up the same Miller Bros ink eraser posted by Dimitri in the thread (inky dinky doo) he linked to his post above - same stamp, cocobolo handle & with the original slip it came in as well... ... Coincidence we both bought a first of one of these ink erasers - or a symptom of the knife disease that comes on in the spring

LB it seems to be contagious. I wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't etched (unless it was dirt cheap).

Here's a H. Boker ink eraser I bought off ebay a few years ago with an ebony handle. I previously posted it in the "inka dinka doo" thread, but thought I would throw it in the mix here as well.

I also bought this old H. Boker knife with an ink eraser blade years ago when I first got into collecting H. Boker knives. I thought for a LONG time that the ink eraser blade was meant to be used as a pipe cleaner. Who knows, maybe some people did use it for that purpose?

I had many Ink Eraser's in the late 90s. I think I sold them on eBay. I kept the below four: One Miller Bros. Ivory handle, two MOP's and one unique hand painted little guy.
Only the Miller Bros. is marked: "Miller Bros. Cut. Co. Meriden Ct." 1917-C1932? Correct me if I am wrong.
Most erasers I have seen here on the West Coast over the years were made with wood handles. Probably a financial decision and they were less likely to go home with a proof reader.

This one has a "Non-Magnetic" handle soldered onto the steel eraser. The large grooved area on the top of the eraser itself is for the index finger for leverage I suppose? Due to the tool being so short?

Most erasers I have seen here on the West Coast over the years were made with wood handles. Probably a financial decision and they were less likely to go home with a proof reader.

True, most have utilitarian wood handles, after all it was just a tool to someone at work doing a job. However, the fancy and expensive handle material was generally sold to wealthy people as part of a desk set like the one pictured below, (not my set).
