Rubber Handles

Post by justold52 »

I just recived a Sog S94 Tomcat with Kraton Rubber handles that seem to be just a little sticky.

What should I do wash the knife with soap and water ? (Dawn soap)

Then if thats ok what do I put on the handle to protect them ?

Well Ken,

First, a little info for you...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kraton_(polymer)

Since Kraton is a polymer, and was designed to be resistant to chemicals like Deet, lighter fluid, etc., I personally wouldn't put anything on it.
Tackiness is usually thought of as a good thing, and will usually wear a mite with handling. That said however, I once used some very fine sandpaper to knock down a little of the tackiness on a Cold Steel knife with Kraton handles. I suggest you be very cautious, as you will be removing handle material.
YMMV (YOUR mileage may vary)

Bill

I agree with El lobo about not treating/appling something to the handles but I do believe you sure aren't going to hurt it with mild soap and water.
By the way-DAWN dish soap is very good [or bad] at cutting through layers of wax.

Thank you very much both for your input.

I will do zip to the handles, that means not a thing now...

This knife sure is a beast of a knife.

To strong for a Lady's name.

Perhaps I will call him El Lobo and put him with my SOG PACK...

Here is one more SOG I have and I like to look at.

JustoldKEN.....

The Wolf(e) would consider it great medicine, and howl at the sliver of moon, to be one of your EDCs.
