Diamond Edge folding Hunter Save!

A friend of mine gave me this knife on Sunday. It was corroded pretty good. The scales and the blade were black from the acids that caused the corrosion. You could not see a tang stamp is was so bad. The cutting edge was all jagged and uneven. I figured that with the wear and corrosion issues that it had life left but no collectors value. So I cleaned it up best I could and put some Camellia wood on it. I cut and dried the wood last Summer. After a bunch of hand sanding and a dunk or two in the ultra sonic cleaner it turns out that its a A.F. Shapleigh Hardware Diamond Edge A143 folding hunter! I like this knife and will add it to the EDC rotation.

I re-profiled the blade to remove some of the belly toward the tip. After I sanded the blades I fit the scales and hand sanded everything until it looked good. I started with 150 grit sand paper and worked up to 1200 grit. Finished it off with 0000 steel wool. Used mineral oil on the scales and rubbed it in with more steel wool. Buffed it up with green buffing compound and here it is!

This will be my last knife for a while. I will be moved to a new house by the end of month and still have to build the shop. All about the move and the new shop will be posted in a separate post. I'll have lots more room!
