Question about Buck 529

I have a small Buck 529 and am trying to date it. The blade has a mirror finish. To the right of the 529 is an upside down arrow like was used in'88. However, in the middle of the arrow is a dot. I have looked at the date code info sheet and do not see it. Does any one have an idea?

Can you post a close-up picture of that stamp? That would be very helpful in trying to determine the correct age.

I took the photo and put it in my computer. When I tried to upload to AAPK, the computer said there is a 'fatal memory error'. I do not know what else to do. Is there an email address that I can send the photo to for someone to look at?

My Buck skills are very (very) limited and I don't recognize this date code. Maybe one of you Buckaroos can help out the OP.

I am going to guess it is a 2007, what he thinks is a dot is actually a line. Check under magnification and see if you agree. You would have to check catalogs but I thought about then was when the leather scaled models were discontinued. 300

If I'm reading the Buck Tang Stamp Chart correctly, and the tang stamp in the photo is an "Upward Arrow" with a vertical line underneath, then it's a 2008.

In that case, I recommend you take a really good close-up of that tang stamp that's crystal clear, and e-mail Buck Knives and ask them to date that knife for you. Then tell us what they said because I'd really like to know.

OK, Let me start over, I was too casual in my first answer my excuse was this is not my model(s) of collection. For date codes beside the model numbers you read them with blade tip pointing up. So the photo is a "up" arrow.

First I enlarged the photo as much as possible, 400%, and it is a up arrow but as OP states it is not a line in the center. I then went to the Buck Collectors Club Website where there are examples of all catalogs and pricelists. No 529 Buckskins for any 2007 or 2008 dates. I looked at the date chart and 1988 is a up arrow so went to that catalog and it has 529 Buckskins listed.

Sometimes Buck will put a dot somewhere on a blade that makes you pull your hair out, we see this quite a lot with 110s and 110 collectors. I am now going to say this knife is a 1988 knife and the dot in the up arrow is a factory symbol for a 'change' in the way something was done in the making of the knife. Some new grinding method, some new heat treatment, some new something. Its meant as a code for the production folks but causes collectors consternation. I have seen them placed in several different spots. I do not know a 529 collector/expert to ask. Bert, Old Hunter or someone else can chime in to back me up on the dots. If you need know beyond all doubt, call Buck Knives customer service and ask to talk to Joe Houser.

PS I went to another forum I visit occasionally and did a search and found a thread with photos of a 529 Buckskin from 1988 with a dot in the up arrow.

Thanks a bunch, 300 Bucks. I was concerned that I had a counterfeit. After reading your info, I am satisfied that my 529 was made by Buck.
