looking for a Buck 703 from 2000 with no shield/crest/indent

I am not a collector but my husband is and he has been selected to try to purchase a Buck knife for our boss for a retirement gift. We thought that was a reasonable request but it has proven to be harder than expected. We wanted to replace his current well loved knife that has a broken blade. I know Buck will replace the blade for a fee, but we don't feel we can send his knife in for repair without his permission and hoped to just replace it. It is a 703 with 3 blades and from the Buck website appears to have been manufactured in 2000. The problem is all the 703s I've found online don't look exactly like his. We are still searching locally, but ..... The one he has had NO indication it is a Buck except on the blade, no nameplate on the wood part, no crest, not even the indentation I see on some of the ones found online.

If the picture I attached works, it looks like this on both sides!

Can anyone offer any information that might help us in our search?

Pattipat I noticed while searching for Buck 703 on eBay that a couple of them were missing the shild. Perhaps this knife is prone to that and ypur hubby's boss' knife suffers that same affliction. There are numerous 703's for sale there.

There's also a Pre-86 Buck 703 for sale here on the AAPK Website. Un-used and in-the-box.

It doesn't appear it ever had anything attached to the wood part. Could it be missing and leave no evidence?

I will look at the one for sale on this site. Thanks for any comments or help anyone can offer.

If the "Buck" shield was simply glued on and that knife was carried a lot, there's a possibility that the constant usage would erase any trace of a shield.

Every Day Carry, (EDC) knives rub up against many things such as keys, clothing, oil from finger tips, etc, so it would not be unheard of to find a knife with a missing shield to where it looked like nothing was ever there.

Thank you. That may explain why I haven't been able to find anything (even online photos) of one that looks EXACTLY like it.
