Came in the mail today from Dave (dcgm4). Note the new (to me) tang stamp - J.W. & S. Newark N.J.
The little short vertical line between Newark and N is actually in the tang stamp. Found some info on it here on AAPK that indicates it was made for Wiss (the scissors people) after they bought Boker USA. Maybe a brand they intended to introduce as competition in the market place????
All snap like junk yard dogs and there are very few flaws amongst them all. I'm just tickled pink. Thanks Dave.

Re: camillus #72
That Hammer Brand intrigues me Jerry!
Can you tell if it was made by Schrade?
I would love to see a close up of the tang stamp!
If that is a New York Knife Hammer Brand, that would date it circa 1932, when NY Knife went out of business, in which case it would be the earliest occurrence of the 72 pattern I have seen.
A additions to your collection!

I'm going with Schrade, Dale. Handles are Delrin® with what looks to me like Schrade jigging and the long pull on the main is plain in the style of Schrade. Note in the tang stamp picture, it's before Swinden Key unless it was actually made by Camillus for Schrade. I guess that's possible.
I'll tell you what, Lyle. They're much more common and a hair of a lot cheaper than those Farmer's Jacks.

Are all 72's Yellow Jackets
This knife looks like new but "Yellow Jacket" is not etched on the blade. I have had this one for a while. Is this a factory mistake?

Re: Are all 72's Yellow Jackets
Possibly or part of an overrun on an SFO. It's obviously genuine but I'm sure you knew that. Almost certainly made in the 2000's but not likely part of the last made because they changed to a different small clip blade and it's position there towards the end. I have one like it that was never completely finished. I don't know at what point in the process the blades were etched. I'd guess, probably after the final grind (would almost have to be) but before being installed in the frame. (I'm not very knowledgeable on the manufacturing process)CarlM wrote: Is this a factory mistake?

Re: camillus #72
Anyone ever notice how 72 pattern looks a lot like a coke bottle pattern when turned backwerds?

Doug, I've seen plenty of people call that "swell center" a "Coke bottle" (usually the larger patterns like a folding hunter). Kind of fitting, don't you think?

Re: camillus #72
Earlier I posted a question about the bone handled Camillus shortline 72. I didn't get a quick answer so I went to page 1 of this thread and bingo there was my anwer.I came back to page 77 and deleted my post. Then I returned to page 1 and proceeded to read the entire thread.
What a glorious chronology of members who have come and gone and many who are still here today. JerryD it would appear that you have been creating more followers of the 72 over many years than you can fend off. I too have developed a penchant for the shortline bone handles. I even found the genesis of the whittler question. I would like to thank all posters for a great read and many humorous posts. Just another benefit of AAPK membership. Thank you gentlemen!
