When Did Jigged Bone Handles Emerge?

I know I've seen this discussed before, but I can't recall when and can't seem to find it in any of my books. Photos of early jigged bone encouraged in this thread

I seem to remember reading an article on jigged bone but am drawing a blank on just where. Thought it originated in England in the mid-19th century as an alternative to genuine stag and to make smooth bone easier to grip. I believe they also had info on using a bow drill which used to cut into the scales to inset the shields.
Will try and find the article.
