Re: Philadelphia tang stamp help
Nice looking knife, cato. What is the handle made of? Rather long tang. How is the action with that spring pin set so far back?

Re: Philadelphia tang stamp help
The snap is good now had to oil it ,
Handle seems to be bake o lite or fibroid
like you would find on straight razor ...
more i look at it... maybe a corn knife
it is 3 1/4 closed, but the blade is full length with the knife,
most corn knives i see the blade seems to stop 3/4 of the well
it also has a pin inside right at the tang/ blade transition its seems to rest on when closed

Re: Philadelphia tang stamp help
The stamp is L. Herder & Son. The "L" stands for Leopold. The stamp dates the knife between 1872 and 1920. That pattern is a variation of a corn knife. The long tang gives you greater control of the blade so there's less chance you accidentally cut yourself.
