Case 5225 1/2 ?????
Have a question for you knowledgable Case guys out there. I picked up this really nice stag 8 dot 1982 25 1/2 pattern small coke bottle the other day. However it is tang stamped 6225 1/2 indicating that it should be bone. So a couple things appear to be wrong. First, it should be stamped 5225 1/2 indicating stag and second, according to my 7th edition Premium Guide to Knives and Razors by Jim Sargent, Case did not make this pattern in stag in 1982. Case did make this pattern in bone in 1982 and they made it in stag in 1983. The knife appears to be straight from the factory and untampered with. Stag matches well to the bolsters. In open position blade meets up nicley with the backspring. So the question is... is it more liley that this knife that was caught up in the transition from 82 to 83 and came from the factory this way or has it been tampered with? Your thoughts?

Hi your knife is an example of a post-factory rehandle job done by a knife mechanic. The original knife would have had delrin handles. The shield is the shield that Case used on delrin handled knives in that era. It is a nicely done set of handles though.
