M.Klein Rework
Here is a M. Klein three bladed electrician’s knife that I reworked. This knife is an experiment on several fronts. My first attempt at split handles. My first attempt at a different style of filework; using both back springs to make a whole image. I imagine someone else has done something similar, but I haven’t seen it. Also I was experimenting with the filework on the bolsters.
Since this was an experiment on several levels, I used an old knife that wasn’t in the best condition. It turned out well enough that I wish I had used a better knife to begin with.
I am not very pleased with the X filed into the bolsters. That was a salvage of a more decorative pattern I started but had problems with. I think it would have looked better with plain bolsters or with threading on the bolsters.
The handles look nice (IMHO), but I will have to see how they hold up in EDC & use.
I left the sheepfoot blade (though in fact it may really be a worn down hawkbill blade) because I like the sheepfoot.
Please feel free to critique my design. I would love your feedback.

I admit that I got the chance to watch this from the start. In my opinion you could not have made a more All American Knife out of a Klein or anything else for that matter. She is a keeper for sure.

I like it Dale, especially the filework. Well, if you don't like the X's on the bolsters you can always use the 4 area's created by the X to do some texturing. You could do some stippling, engraving by using a Turbo-carver or something like that. I am finding the Turbo-Carver do be an excellent tool and investment, still just doing it on scrap.
IMO, you did a great job!
Bolsters can always be textured, use 2 different styles in the opposing box.
She is a keeper for sure, another technique for the bolsters would be to carve a pattern and fill it with brass or copper wire.
You did an excellent job, just throwing a few ideas out there.

Hey Dale, it's good to see you working in the shop ! I'm proud of ya'.
Very creative filework, my friend. Don't think I've seen another like that. Likewise, the handles look darn good. The Red, White & Blue catches the eye, but I also think the "straight-line" pin arrangement is neat.
About the only thing I could suggest for the bolster's, would be perhaps checkering them, in panels ? But, I dunno if a metal checkering file would work in that small an area ? Leave it alone, for awhile - something will strike you....
Overall - you've made a silk's purse out of it ! (Where's the 3rd blade ?)
Big pat on the back, from JR.

Thanks Guys. I really appreciate your comments & suggestions.
A couple good possibilities there Hukk. I don't have a Turbo-Carver……not sure what it is..........maybe I do have one in all my "stuff".
Texturing is a good idea. I will have to experiment with it.
Good idea RJ to leave it alone for a while until something strikes me.
Oh, the third blade was a screwdriver blade that I decided I could live without.
I have several Camillus fixed blade blanks I got off ebay. They will keep me busy while I figure out what to do with the bolsters, plus I have a "few" jobs backed up.
Glad you all liked it.
Thanks for the feed back.

http://www.turbocarver.com I already had a compressor, at 40psi it will run at 400,000 RPM or 20x faster than a Dremel. There is a guy on eBay that sells carbide dental burrs faily cheap.orvet wrote:Thanks Guys. I really appreciate your comments & suggestions.![]()

The ability to control a Turbo-Carver is better, it is small and as easy to use as a pencil, almost. Small enough that it makes a Dremel seem bulky. I also bought burrs for stone and metal work.
