What is Your Latest Old Schrade?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

In the 3rd Gen display, i would like to see a pic of just the "LB4".
And, Folding Hunter finder, i think it's worth $52 and i collect 25OT & 125OT. On used examples the very tips of the blades are almost always rounded off, or worse, even in lightly used examples. I do have a few lightly used ones with perfect tips but the best way to be sure of this is to get a new, never used one. So, yes definitely worth $52, even as a user. Many say the Old Timer 1095 blades take a superior edge, so if you are a skilled sharpener, then you have a knife that you could really enjoy using.

Terry - I don't think that giving that 25OT a good soapy bath, blow dry, and oiling would hurt the value at all. In fact, over time that factory grease will harden and tarnish the blades and bolsters. You will enjoy it cleaned up. Whatever you do, don't store the knife in the sheath.

Hawk, that sounds like good advice. When I first started collecting, a seasoned collector told me...dirt ain't patina.

That is an amazing cleaning job you did there Doug. You have inspired me to pay a little more attention to some of my old bone stagers. Certainly brings a new lease of life to an ordinary looking scale.

All I did was soak it in warm soapy water and use a dremel nylon brush. Smear some Flitz on it and use the same brush to get it into all the jigging. Then a little cloth buffing wheel that dremel makes. Took awhile to find what works, but it sure speeds up the cleaning. Keep the knife wet and slow speed cleans the best.

::tu:: I posted this clean up on anther post but will put it on the "latest old schrade" also.
Anyway I did clean up the 25OT and am glad I did. The factory grease had turned almost to shellac and was a bitch to get off. I started with rubbing alcohol and went to acetone and a soft cotton cloth. Then buffed with a soft cotton buff. Terry

WOW ! Beautiful 25OT, a true 'mint' example.
I think the Folding Hunter is one of the best of Schrade USA knives. I have a drawer full of 25OT's & 125OT's. Of the two i like the 125 best as it is a slender knife, however as a user for hunting it is better to have the second blade.
