Very nice as usual OH. I've never shot a 45-70, but it'd be alright!

Last year I sold a Marlin 44 mag, I liked it, but all my others are pre safety, and I hit offered gold money so away it went. I sure would like another only pre safety.

My favorite Marlin, and the most fun to shoot is the 1894 .357/38 special. Man that little gun is fun.

::tu:: The 1894 is my favorite Marlin also! But mine's a 25-20 that belonged to my grandfather. He gave it to me when I turned 18. My earliest memory of the rifle was when I was about 6 or 8 years old, my grandmother shot a jackrabbit with it through the open kitchen window. Guess what we had for supper that night? Not much meat on a jackrabbit as I recall. Rarely shoot it now but I did kill a coyote with it about a year ago. It's a blast to shoot, as long as I don't think about what it's doing to my wallet. ::facepalm::

My Winchester M88 (308 WIN) made meat just before sunrise yesterday morning; this young buck was chasing a doe all over a big beanfield. She ran into the woods and he stopped to peer in, 212 yards (pretty close to the powerline tower) from my stand. The handloaded 165 grain Hornady Interlock went through his lungs. If you look closely at the bottom of the first picture you can see where his rear hooves dug into the ground at the shot and the blood patches left on the leaves with each step. He was about 40 yards into the woods from the edge. OH

great firearms guys. Thanks for sharing. Too many fine ones to single I picked up quite a bit of gear myself. All sorts of Coyote calls and different hunting stuff. I have to stay out of Cabela's cuz I dropped quite a bit of cash in the last week. Here's my impulse item that was on the glass gun counter that I picked up the other day. Always wanted a SIG SAUER AR15. Basically saw it and handled it for about 1 minute and told the guy I would take it. Kind of nice here with my CCW because they don't have to call me In And I don't have to pay the 25 bux for a background check every time. The wait on the phone for the background checks is like an hour to an hour and a half now. So it's nice just to have my card and pay them and go out the door
SIG SAUER M400 5.56 With Vortex 1x4 scope. I like the scope alot. 10 levels of illumination in between each level is it off notch. So you just have to crank one click to get back to the illumination level that you prefer and and not crank the whole dial around. The weather was real fine on Sunday when me and my buddy sighted in our new firearms. Snow and cold but we had the range to ourselves
And she's a fine shooter. She's my new coyote gun. No song dogs yesterday but I snapped a couple pics on my hunt. What a beautiful day it was.
Merry Christmas all. Regards, Jerry

Very cool OH my friend! Fine shot and ethical harvest. I really like those Interlock from Hornady. That is all I use at the moment for big game. I harvested my antelope and mule deer this year with .30-06 150 grain Interlocks. Blew the heart out on my buck and he took exactly 0 steps after I hit him. Never found the bullet as I would like to see the expansion on it. If you ever happen to recover a bullet after you smack a deer with an Interlock I would love to see a picture of one.

Merry Christmas Sir! Regards, Jerry

Very nice OH. That 308 in a lever gun is a mighty appealing platform to me.

Thank you gents - he is being ground into link sausages for the freezer. OH

Jerry, that is one mighty fine modern sporting rifle you have there - nicely rigged out too. I keep thinking I should buy one (before the next panic) but I have a Garand in excellent condition and consider that my hard use rifle. But I keep thinking......OH

Thank you sir! Here's where I'm at my friend, I would rather have it than not need it than need it and not have it. Of course I hope to God it never comes to that. If that's the case, than I have a fun rifle that I'll find out tomorrow how far I can smack yotes with If we are lucky enough to see some. They smacked 18 Yotes from an airplane with a 10 gauge shotgun last week off the property where we might be going to if you can believe that. The owner has about 4000 Goats he raises out there that he raises purely for food. And I mean airplane and NOT helicopter. Either way nice to have. Please forgive me if any of your quote I referenced has been edited as it was not intentional my smartphone cursor has a mind of its own at the moment. God bless you and yours with Merry Christmas a prosperous and happy new year

Thanks much Wade and Unk! Like this one quite a bit. Feels made for me and we all know what that means.

Hope everyone's Christmas went well.

Picked up a good quality scope. I believe they make a3 by 12, I opted for the 4 X 16. If you're not familiar with the Burris Eliminator 3, It has a built in rangefinder with yardage and 10 mile an hour hold off calculation that appear digitally at the top of the scope picture above the crosshairs. Very cool stuff in my opinion. Place the crosshairs on the target push the button on either side of the bell and hold over is calculated for you based on ballistics. A red dot appears on the vertical crosshair and then that becomes point of aim. It has a built in Inclinomator to compensate holdover and range based on angle It's up to the shooter to multiply or use arithmetic based on estimated wind and provided windage hold off at rangefinded distance. I have the ballistics all plugged in. Just need to get out to the range to sight to zero at hundred yards and do some final tweaks. I look forward just seeing what it can do. This is likely in 800 to 1000 yard rifle now.
My new coyote gun. Shooting 145 grain 308. Not too big for song dogs but will be pretty darn effective for sure. Thats that a fairly large cartridge for coyote In my opinion. Check out the video in the link I provided. A guy at my local range has one and I've seen him consistently hit a 1 inch steel plate at 400 yards, no problem. Another Christmas present to myself. What the heck, might as well enjoy it while I'm young.

Thanks Wade my friend. I'm pretty excited to take it out to the range maybe tomorrow. I have all the ballistics plugged in and I've kind of checked it out at my place. Kind of like a mutant scope to where it only mounts to Picatinny or Weaver with NO rings. Can't even put rings on it if you want to. Pretty sure I'm going to be going long range with this. Definitely not old school, definitely new school but will help me fulfill my bucket list item(only one so far) I've actually hitting some targets accurately at long range. Targets could be paper or coyotes hopefully both. Not looking for bragging rights but just as personal achievement I'd love to nail a coyote at a thousand or 800 yards.

That's a right nifty outfit. I have some friends out west who talk about shooting those kinds of distances with those long legged rifles. From my area here in the rolling hills I can't imagine a place where a shot like that is even a possibility. Sounds like a hoot.

I pocket carry. Open carry here begins on 1-1-16. Not really sure I'll open carry, at least for a while.
I carry a Colt Mustang in 380 and mine is stainless. It is a fairly close quarters sort of a weapon and I would only try a longer shot if circumstances demanded. Don't sell the round short tho as it can do the job that needs to be done.
The weapon fits nicely into the back pocket of my jeans and does not create the dreaded 'outline'. If I am wearing sweats or shorts I usually carry in the right front pocket. With dress slacks the back pocket is more than ample. Sometimes sweats or shorts sag so badly with the weight of the pistol that it is not practical to carry and about the only time I do not carry is when my clothing does not lend support to carrying. When wearing jeans, if the weapon was any larger it would not be concealed as well tho a shirt tail or jacket would serve the purpose. I just don't feel as comfortable with any of the weapon exposed out of the pocket.
Not sure this is the info you are seeking but hope this helps.

Great suggestions guys! Sounds like three fine choices there. Appreciate the input also As I am looking for a pocket carry too. I'm looking more in the lines of a backup role for one of these. Not much of a sub compact or ultra compact guy myself as my only or primary carry, to each his own, just the way I do it. Current cold weather with a light lower hip length jacket hide my new primary carry just fine. Inside waistband right hip with my new Sig Sauer P220 with 5 inch barrel "Full Size" 10 millimeter with 8 plus one 180 grain JHP at 1350 fps with 2 spare mags. Certainly well beyond pocket carry criteria of OP but I figured it was worth mentioning due to the increased the power and distance that it allows. Not sure what I'll do this summer maybe my 4 inch barrel SIG SAUER P 226 with 15+1 capacity carrived IWB also. Not required by law not to print but I preferred not too of course. Personally more concerned about capabilities than comfort. Just they way I do it.
That said, I appreciate the question Dogg and all the member responses on options. Been looking at the Sig P 290 that ftd mentioned but will certainly look closer at the other two options and any additional ones that were/are mentioned.
BTW, not a fan of open carry unless one does not have a permit. If open carry is used (done it many times but usually not in town), I personally strongly suggest a kydex holster with some sort of push button lock/release. Open carry has been legal here for a long time.

On a related note, Concealed or open, pocket, purse or holster, I am strongly suggesting to all friends and family that they carry EVERYWHERE AND EVERY TIME they leave their home. Does you no good if you God forbid you need it and is at home in the safe. My town is for the majority very low crime, but times have changed. Just my opinion.
