mini copperlocks

I've really been able to utilize Daryl's copperlock list found on the site here ... but it focuses on large copperlocks. Is there another list somewhere on the web or a book that has a listing of the mini copperlocks that were made (especially the older ones - 1998) and their item #'s?

Most books don't list prices for the copperlocks or mini-copperlocks (maybe because they're too new), but I was just wondering if anyone could point me to a resource that would give me the different handle materials, item #'s, year made, number produced, SFO's, etc., kind of like Daryl's list for the large copperlocks (see it here)

It costs a ton of money and much work to write a book, and knifecollecting seems to be a pretty specialized market. It seems like everybody relatively new to collecting thinks there should be magic books and information for every brand and pattern of knife ever made. To paraphrase..."If it was easy, everybody could do it." IMO, eBay has changed the way values are determined, and information is disseminated. And, that pattern seems to be limited to CASE, at least in modern days.

So, the "Mini Copperlock" from CASE might best be addressed by asking the CASE folks...either in the CASE forum...

hey eric, no offence meant. i only meant since you were interested in a particular pattern, you might enjoy doing the research. i wish i could help, maybe i have a few old case cats. with some minies in them. i'll take a look.

Hey there folks,

I took Johnie's comment as a good-natured joke and my comment was meant to be the same! I don't have an argumentative bone in my body.

Also, Bill, I don't think there should be a "magic" book for anything . . . I was just wondering if there was a resource out there. I realize writing a book is a genuinely difficult process, and I wasn't suggesting that there MUST be one . . . I was just asking if one existed out there, and, if so, if someone could clue me in. I have found some good information in my latest knife book purchase . . . Pocket Knife Trader's Guide Volume 8 by James Parker and Ed Henley. The info on copperlocks in there is on 357, 358, and 359. It's just that some that I'm looking for aren't listed in there. It's as if they picked their favorites and listed those. I'm sure it would have been very difficult for them to make an exhaustive list . . .

Anyway Bill, I appreciate the links. Perhaps I'll contact CASE directly to see if there's an exhaustive list somewhere that I can get my hands on. If so, perhaps it WOULD be a good idea for me to put a list together. Perhaps others would find that useful (no promises, of course!)

And Johnie, I really was just joking around . . . really! I knew what you were saying, and I was just being my normal sarcastic self. It's hard to communicate well just with written text . . . it's much easier to communicate face to face. And if you had seen my face when I was typing up my post, you would have seen that I was laughing when I read your post! So, my response was meant to be humorous - and obviously I failed in making it so.

I have nothing but very sincere respect and admiration for all those who participate in this forum . . . it's the friendliest place I've ever discovered on the web . . . and that's the truth. I meant no disrespect or rudeness.

I found some information and have compiled a list of 1998 copperlocks made by Case. I may have missed a couple and I'm still working on the ebay price list. I haven't been able to find them all. Hopefully it'll be useful to someone out there. Thanks for the encouragement to do a little deeper digging. I'll work on an html version of the chart as well.

I appreciated your comments on writing a book, and not having a day job any more (me too).
But your comments brings up a good point, there are a lot of us (tired &) retired old farts out here that know a thing or two about some things. It dawns on me that we can pass a lot of this info along, without writing books, just by being a part of a forum such as AAPK. I have many threads saved to my computer for future reference.
Another good way to pass along the info is in AAPK’s Research Section. I have added some to it, but when I did, Larry (LRV) (bless his pointy little head…………just kidding Larry ) sent me catalogs from bygone years, back into the 1940s! (see his web site). It will take me a year or two to get through all of them. But, these lists are a great way to share info without having to publish a book. He has added Imperial, Ulster & Camillus…………..soon he will have change the name to collectors-of-knives.

I guess my point is that we don’t have to write a book any more to share what we know.
