Help Please with Remington Scout Jr.

I've checked all my books and can't determine an age estimate for this Remington Jr. Scout RS4233. The books don't even agree on whether the shield is pre 1921 or '23, as it looks like this is a pre-official.

One book states that the can opener is post 1924.

None picture this pattern with pinched bolsters.

I've no reason to suspect a fake as there are no signs of alteration, and I know the knife's history.

Can anyone pinpoint the age, and a possible value ? Brown bone, overall wear, master loss from use, screwdriver & awl both shortened long ago.

I'll bet remington collector will be along before too long. He is a whiz at them. So just "sit chilly" my man.

Well I to can not help you with that scout hang-in just let me know if the rope gets to tight...

I have a Sog knife that will cut rope real well.

Hi....while we wait for the expert, RS4233 is pictured in Blade's guide and is dated c1925. Obviously this is not a precise dating and you may already have this info.

That sure looks like an offical shield to me. If it is, the main blade tang stamp and the shield would both suggest post 24. I'd place a value in the $50 range.

Hold on.......Now that all the "Gentlemen" have cleared out, I got a little more info for you.

It is an Official Scout from 1923-24, BSA #1497. They could have been made/used in '25

. I could not find them during that time though.
RC may know for sure; but I think Remington only used a one piece can opener up until 1926, then in '27 the Tillmans two-piece was patented and used from then on.

I watched a near mint one sell on the world largest market place and it went for $150 ballpark back in January this year.

BSA also used this pattern from 1929-32, but it has the round shield, no bolster line, etc etc.

The opener is two pieces, riveted, and has Remington stamped across the top piece, back side of opener.

, I see now the two-pieces. I am on dial-up and it can take five minutes for a photo to load. I avoid it sometimes.

Remington quit using the single piece in April 1926. No difference other than the can opener. So you are looking at 1926 late, 1927.......

With your history and my dates, do they correlate?

That works for me. It belonged to a friend's father. I probably gave him too much for it, but he could use the cash. He also threw in a souvenir miniature straight knife w/ sheath stamped Colonial / Prov. RI / U.S.A., which was from Roadside America, and I think from the 50-60's. He's looking for his scout knife as well, which should also be from about late '50's. We're both happy, so that's all that counts.
