Woodlawn, The Movie

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

Woodlawn, The Movie

Post by RobesonsRme.com »

"Woodlawn" is a 2015 movie that is taken from actual events that occurred in Birmingham in 1973 and 1974. It is the story of a local high school, Woodlawn, in the midst of racial strife following desegregation and the Woodlawn football team, mostly white and unable to deal with the presence of a handful of black players, including one Tony Nathan, who eventually had great careers with Alabama and the Miami Dolphins.

It is a story of Faith and how one man, Hank Erwin, Jr, led almost the entire team to a saving faith in Jesus Christ and how that team then led the entire city into a renewed faith and acceptance of others.

It's a great movie.

Our church, with the cooperation of the head football coach of our local high school, Huffman, hosted the entire Viking football team and its cheer leaders to a premier showing of the movie on Monday, October 19th, at a local theatre.

After the movie, the coach had a few words with the team in the theatre and then issued an altar call invitation.

Twenty-seven young men and ladies accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Now, I suspect some of those possibly did so because they just went along with the others, but let's pray that was not the case.

Our pastor had conferences with some of the respondents and others were counseled at their family's churches.

We baptized six of the players at our church this past Sunday. Both the pastor and their coach were in the Baptistery and a couple of the linemen were so large it took both men to lay them back into the water and raise them up again.

What a blessing!

Please pray for these young people.
