Mighty fine buck, Phil! And just reading about that breakfast makes me hungry. Is that frost on the field in the first photo? If it is, that makes it a perfect hunting morning to me!

Way to go Philco! Congratulations ::tu:: !
It's hard to beat an opening day buck. You got to give him a ride in your new buggy plus a great breakfast with friends and neighbors!
What speed is your Browning and how many deer can y'all kill in Kentucky?

Way to go Phil! It took me a bit longer but I filled my buck tag too. Big bodied 8 point with LOTS of fat. Going to be a cold winter!

Here's a pic of where I was hunting and the buck. For the record there was big frost here this morning too.

Goodness sakes, Wade ::woot:: ::woot:: another Kentucky buck! Y'all must be payin' the preacher, no wait a minute, you are the preacher ::facepalm::
Good job! I've been blessed to kill several deer every year for many years, but they seldom look like the deer you and Philco got yesterday.
In honor of the Kentucky bucks, we're thawing out some vacuum packaged tenderloins for Sunday dinner. They'll be seasoned, wrapped in bacon and broiled till the bacon is done as soon as we get home from church :),

Way to go Wade! That's a dandy buck.

Treefarmer that Browning is a 7MM mag. To answer your question about how many deer we can take here in Kentucky, it depends on what county you are in. I took my deer in Casey County where you are limited to one buck and one doe. You can only take one antlered buck statewide, but in some counties you can harvest an unlimited number of does. The county I will hopefully be hunting in later this month has a longer season (one week longer) and you can take an unlimited number of does if you purchase "bonus" doe tags.

Congratulations Phil and Colonel Wade - fine bucks! So Phil shot his with a 7mm Magnum and Wade is your Marlin a 32 WIN SPL or 35 REM - cause that looks like a big hole! Good fire making skills Scott - looks like you could get warmed up near that fire. OH

Colonel - that is a beautiful buck. I like that rifle - I have always been partial to lever actions.

Scott - that is an unusual axe or hatchet in your photo. I do not recall ever seeing one constructed by riveting the blade to the socket.

Thanks Bruce. ::handshake:: I was pretty happy with my ferro rod striking spark flying efforts!

Ya know Mel, I've never seen anything like that before either. It's an AMES product. Not sure if AMES is still in business or not, but I did work for them waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when.

I will tell you though, it kicks BUTT on small branches and making kindling......I won't soon be getting rid of it...

Fine bucks on the ground guys.

Scott, Ames is still around and looks like they are doing well. They apparently don't make axes or hatchets anymore though based on their website info. Interesting axe you have there. Never saw one like that.

Took the boys and great nephews on the Black Friday Mission yesterday.....had a blast as usual. The kids figure out what to do - they still amaze me.

Hey......did you know one of the finest features of fatwood? It doesn't spark when buring.
I burned little slivers of fatwood yesterday for an hour and a half to shoo off the mosquitoes and there was never a spark. ::tu::

Hey OH, I just saw this. My rifle is a Marlin 336SC (1957-1958) .35 Rem. I absolutely love the SC platform, and the caliber. 200 gr Rem Corelockts in 35 caliber at these modest velocities leave nice big holes with lots of blood, but don't make bloodshot meat. You can eat right up to the hole so to speak.

Now as to that big hole. I hit this buck a tad high, in the upper chest cavity. The heart and lungs were in tact, so he ran about 50 yards and laid down. I walked up on him and he struggled up and scrambled for another 40 or so gushing blood as he chest cavity had filled up and he was bleeding ought of both sides. I walked upon him the second time and he was alive but couldn't move.

So pulled up my rifle to to shoot him again just in case he tried to run again. And dad gum info didn't put the second one almost in the same hole. Lol. What you see there is two 35 caliber bullets almost touching.

Nice deer guys, there are two thoughts that come in my mind after seeing them, 1. could make some nice pens out of those antlers. 2. Would love some deer jerky.

Great hunting story Wade, thanks for the detail on the shoot. I went duck hunting yesterday, too warm, too nice, lots of ducks on the river channel but very few flying into the creeks. It was a gorgeous day to be out on the water though. OH
