Bone Handled TL-29s?

As a big fan of the TL-29, I've been finding several on Ebay that have what appear to be bone (or fake bone) and celluloid on them instead of the usual black micarta/plastic.

When did they do these?

I've found one with amber bone for $10 shipped should I go for it?

Camillus & Pal Blade both made bone handled TL-29s. I was discussing them with Mike Silvey a couple years ago at the OKCA show. He is not 100% positive that they were ever issued in the military, but it is quite possible they were issued.

I have a couple of the Camillus ones and one of the Pal Blade versions.n

Here's one that I got a couple of years ago. Very early WWII with four-line stamp. Paid $12.52 for it!!

They've shown up in enough excavations (recovery of remains, clearing of old ordnance, etc) that there shouldn't be any question if they were issued. They seem more common on sites from earlier in the war, possibly indicating they were purchased "off the shelf" during the mad scramble to gear up at the start of the war.
