Knice Mel! ::tu::

I can't stand saltwater fishing......salt leaves a funny feeling on your hands and ruins your gear.
Just my take....

Snakes and a strange fish - cool pictures gents! OH

Yes congrats and good shooting OH.
Really like the snake pics. I like snakes myself. Unfortunately the harmless ones are here look like rattlesnakes.
Mel, that fish looks like a vicious little predator. Kind of reminds me of a Ling cod.

Thanks for sharing the pics Gents!

My contribution to the snake topic. Seems like at least half the snakes on my place are copperheads - killed 6 this year so far. This one is the biggest I've ever seen, about as big around as my wrist which is big for a copperhead. Unfortunately this one got away, so still around somewhere. Worry about my grandkids running across one, but both my boys and their buddies grew up running all over this place and survived. I only kill the copperheads and cottonmouths, the rest I like to have around.

Scott - the saltwater is really hard on gear. After most trips I soak my reels in fresh water to get the salt out, but the screws and such still rust. Pliers, knives, hooks - they are kind of temporary. But hey - when I get a big fish on my line, that stuff just does not matter!

Ken - beautiful Copperhead! I understand your worry about your grandkids, and I would kill a venomous snake in my backyard. But I grew up in a rural area infested with Diamondbacks and Water Moccasins and survived. I have read that most children who are bitten do not see the snake, and that most adults (all men I am guessing) are messing with the snake when they get bit. I always like seeing snakes, harmless or poisonous. Heck, I like seeing any animal in the wild!

Here is a small rattler that I found a couple of years ago. He was in an isolated area and I did not harm him.

Fellers, I'm not much on snakes, if it's not poison it usually is ignored, unless he's in the bird feeder. But when it's a rattler, moccasin or a coral snake, I'll go out of my way to kill it! When y'all come to visit, you can bring your dog but if you have a pet snake leave the critter at home ::nod:: .
I don't even like to pick 'em up after they're dead! ::td::

Nice Philip - a good one!

Dogg & Scott - I'm sure there are enough snakes to share with everyone - come turkey hunting with me in the spring - coastal swamps have more to offer than just Tom's! OH

I think that situation calls for about a half pound of C-4.

I don't know, can you imagine having 2 or 3 of those things flying through the air & landing on you?
Even half dead they are still dangerous.

I think I would use a 12 gauge with bird shot. Preferably a drum fed 12 gauge with a 50 round magazine!

Son (middle) and a couple others helped his buddy get this Elk in Jarbridge Wilderness Area, Nevada on Monday which I believe was opening day. They don't allow motorized vehicles in the wilderness area so however far into the area they were when it was shot, packed out the whole way. Will know more detail later when I talk to him. Really helps to have 3 buddies there on a hunt like this for that reason alone. Not sure on score but as you can see, a big Elk.

Boy oh boy' that's a big critter! Jerry when I read no motorized vehicles I immediately thought of a horse. That sure ain't for an ol' crippled up dude like me, I have to have help loadin' up a 130 pound whitetail on the cart or back of the pickup ::nod::.

Bruce,
That's pretty neat, are you going to bring the pheasants home for Thanksgiving dinner? It is amazing to see and learn about all the wonders of the outdoors in our great land.

Nice roosters Bruce.
I haven't been pheasant hunting since I was a kid.
My dad & granddad hunted together. Grandpa had a bird dog and I was dad's bird dog.
