At the range zeroing in to try equiling Monks meatpole ::nod::savage model 99&340.The gang with two new to hunting females.

Very cool dogg! Thanks for sharing. Looks like a good bunch of folks. Do lots of ladies hunt out that way? Mean't to ask this just yesterday but they say 11% of NV hunters are women. I would say the number is likely much higher in my area of the state. God bless them, love to see that along with the young next generation hunters of either gender.
Forgive me as I have always been a 3 caliber, .243, .308 or .30-06 game hunter (what my father raised me on and used) and I am starting to research some of my diverse ammo collection and some of the guns you all are using but when you say "340", are you talking .340 Weatherby Magnum?

Interesting OH. Tower hunt. Never heard of it although that don't mean nothing. Never heard of "ladder fishing" before I moved to NV and I don't mean salmon ladder.
Love to hear more about it and see more pics if you have them.

So another mission took place yesterday.....the kids found a downed tree that was struck by lightning which created a burn mark and charcoal to rub on their faces.....

I think we'll use this as our Christmas Card ........lol

Amazing how,kids can still have fun & enjoy the outdoors, without a dang video game,computer, or cell phone in their hand and the look on their faces ""says it all """

Thanks. I Google model 340 but didn't see anything. So a 30-30. Read up on that model and sounds like a trusty and handy firearm.

Ya she is a 30-30 right now a camp door gun soon to be my oldest grandsons I have thought about a lever but I don't like a trigger safety for a young hunter so the bolt with a tang safety works for me

This is the tower Jerry - 130' up, pheasants launched from up there. First time experience for me too. OH

Yesterday, third day of season, first morning out for me. Doe, 75 lbs., shot in bean field with my old Winchester M70, 30-06 SPRG - bullet entered at heart, angled through and out rear of lungs on opposite side. Skinned and deboned on rack with Buck 118 - this one will be venison burger. Mid 30's yesterday, same this morning, I'm in a stand now. Seen two spikes this morning, but they get to walk here. OH

Dogg, that ol' 340 is a solid rifle. I traded one off a couple of years back, kinda' wish I had kept it for the same reason you stated .
Scott, you're brave man! Those youngsters won't forget that day and neither will their mothers! Bein' old school, my observations are way too many kids never leave the house and detach themselves from their video games and get in the outdoors. Need more patient mentors like Scott!

not appreciate me hangin' a deer from the Live Oak near the shuffleboard area for
skinning.....

Andf I don't have the moolah to have a butcher do it....... assuming of course I could shoot one

Just a thought, that young group you have need a clan patch if you think it's a good idea and can swing it. Something they get after so many missions or proficiency at tasks. Just thought it might be a cool idea, maybe not.

As far as processing a deer in an apartment or condo, I just did that with the one I got 2 weeks ago and it was a large deer. No need to hang the deer although others may have their opinion also.
Where my deer was shot you were not dragging it out whole and gutted. Bring an old bed sheet so you can lay the deer or quarters on it and not get dirt on the meat and the deer is quartered, quarters skinned and boned out on the spot. It takes some technique (son is better at it than I am) but you can also get the tenderloins out without gutting the deer. The backstraps are pretty easy to get at also. Load it into some game bags and head home. Assuming the weather is not too hot, no cooler is required and the meat will start cooling. At home/vehicle, put the game bags in trash bags so no blood spills all over (there wont be much). Take it inside the kitchen and one bag at a time remove all the hair, excess fat, etc on a large cutting board. I buy those cheap heavy tin foil roasting pans for cooking turkeys at wally world for 88 cents apiece and put the cleaned meat in those, cover loosely with foil and into the frig. I ended up with 4 full pans. Next day (or up to 3 or 4 days) take it out, cut it up into steaks and roasts and vacuum seal your meat. All the scraps from processing, legs bone meat, non prime cuts get made into hamburger. You can probably pickup a vacuum sealer and meat grinder of ebay pretty cheap. A deer will easily fit in a normal frig/freezer. In speaking with some butchers, they swear the meat can be aged for a few days after it thaws so that is why you can make your cuts the day after the kill if you want.
We don't rinse the meat with water, all hair removed by paper towel blotting or with your fingers.
There was not a scrap of good meat left in the field. Make sure your laws allow you to leave the carcass in the field of course.
Sounds like alot of work because it is but google venison meat for sale online and look at the price per pound. The cost of the vacuum bags, etc is not much and is way offset by the meat in the frig even if it were beef.
After all that, the apartment was not looking like a slaughter house and no one was the wiser I did it.

Ran across this uncommonly large Garter snake today, must have been over 3 feet long. I see them pretty frequently around here, especially in spring, but this is the biggest one I recall seeing. She was just chilling out enjoying the sunny morning. If you enlarge the pic you can see her a little better.

Mike, I have always like snakes, and that is a very nice garter snake.

Here is an interesting fish that my wife caught a couple of weeks ago. Nice set of teeth, he has!

And a very fine spotted king snake that I encountered at work three weeks ago.

That is a Lizard Fish. Not too common to catch, for me, at least. Here is a photo of one of the areas we fish. The Gulf Coast is a very flat, marshy coast, compared to a lot of the West Coast.
