What is Your Latest Old Schrade?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Jerry, the European knives usually had "440 Stainless" (or something to that effect) etched on the blade. Nice finds Tom!

The European knifes where also stamped with one different number.
I would say CHASE'S are :-

2250 USA 2260 EUROPEAN
1250 USA 1260 EUROPEAN

If I am wrong someone will correct me.

Jerry,
I believe schrade were working on a number of Special Order knives around 2002-2004.
I have a number of those sets, and believe they never went into production.
I have been told, some of these Special Order knives were sent back to Schrade, and their production stopped.
All used that same shield and the same tang stamp on stainless blades.
Most of them had brown or blue bone handles.
A very small amount had wooden handles, with the 100 Annivirsiay blade etch.

The last 4" knife, the "ACB8" with Blue Rope Cut bone handles, also never made it to production.
Your knife looks like a "33OT" made up with parts, in the last days of 2004… Ken
Are the handles on you knife like most Old Timers, or black?

Ken, the handles are black.

You are correct, it is the same as the 33OT (I have one). Did they make an open stock edition of that knife? Would it be the 233?

Is that why it's stamped "MM152" ??

It has the correct tang stamp for a Master Mechanics knife and as far as I can figure, it is the only Old Timer that doesn't have SCHRADE on the tang. It's my understanding that they were supposed to have a Master Mechanics shield and this one has an Old Timer shield. If any of the experts can shine some light on this I'd appreciate it.

Here is a quote from Codger's History of the Sharpfinger

"A private issue with special markings was made for Cotter Company (Tru-Value Hardware) in 1989-90. The tang reads "MM152" over "U.S.A.", and the shield imprint is "Master Mechanic". Factory records show an order for *** pieces placed in 1989 only. I have an example of this issue in my collection and have seen only a very few other examples. Factory correspondence indicates that the knives were assembled at Camillus from components from Ellenville. And yet, other than by knowing the story of this particular issue, I can not tell a difference at this point in examples of regular Schrade Sharpfingers assembled at Ellenville and Camillus. In 1991 a small quantity was ordered with only the Master Mechanic blade etch."

But like you said, who knows what they did.

Jerry, I belive the knives with all numbers (eg 233) were pre 1973 vintage.
I would say your knife was made after 2000 , with that blade and shield.
Please help me: what is an "open stockman" ::dang:: ::dang:: ::dang::

Must be, because "Open Stock" is what I typed and I hope I used the term correctly. Usually that term describes something for general sales intended to be available to the public for a long time. At least that's always been my understanding of it.
