...makes me hesitant to post this pic of a Wisconsin sunset as seen from an early October bow stand...doesn't hardly compare, but hey, it's what I got.

Thanks much Monk, TF, Mel, Scott, Mike and OH for the comments and allowing me to share! Still pretty high on the whole thing today! I am not understating when I say it was the hunt of a lifetime. Never forget any detail of that hunt.

I would like to address all comments specifically but I don't want to ramble on. Please know that I am excited to share, see your comments, as well as share in all facets of your outdoor adventures. I really look forward to reading this thread, actually my favorite on the forum. The season is young, look forward to your future posts!

Mel, not in great shape really as I smoke and lost 15 pounds in 3 months and I started at 180 pounds. But I was determined to get up that hill no matter what. Lungs felt good given the overall climb situation and elevation but the climb itself was a bear. I was actually surprised how well I handled it (as was my son) and the experience motivated me to take better care of myself.

Mike, I think OH said it best, anywhere in the outdoors is a great place and where you are is certainly no exception. I honestly would love to hunt the woods again at some point, God willing. Sometimes I miss the woods from when I was younger and lived back east but I have come to find having traveled very extensively, that all places have their own brand of outdoor beauty. That beauty is awe inspiring and easy for me to personally see pretty quickly, wherever it may be. Harvesting a deer in a place as beautiful as you have shared is only icing on the cake. Looks like an awesome spot. As Scott stated, I'd love to come there and hunt that area with you.

Nah Jerry, don't really much about them after summer is gone. May and June are the worst tick months round here.

Here are some of the pictures from the last week. Don't see a doe with 3 fawns too often. Hope one of her little ones will turn out like the other picture !
About 7 weeks till rifle season in the Panhandle.

Jerry, Look about a third of the way down from the top right hand corner of the picture, you can make out the shooting house, it's about 125 yards from the feeder. There is a food plot between the feeder in the planted pines and the stand. It's been planted in cow peas most of the summer and will be planted with Rye grain hopefully tomorrow morning. That stand is about a hundred yards from our back door.

I haven't been in the out of doors much since my knee surgery, but my wife & I saw these 4 deer about a block from our house when she was taking me to my physical therapy appointment.
There were 4 or 5 of deer and one was a spike buck, though I don't think I got him in this picture.

The (new to me) Remington 788, 308cal. ---paid off first trip to the woods !!!! This Ol' Gal is going to make a good mess of sausage*** other than the back-strap, I'm having the whole deer made into "Hot Sage Link Sausage"

__________saw nine total (no horns) this morning --- at 10;50 and fixing to climb down @ 11:00-- decided this big gal had to, come on to the house with me ** Clean neck shot @ 40yds and she droped in her tracks !!!

Alright - first blood of the season - sounds like a nice shot Monk! I went around the farm looking for wasps in my stands this afternoon and spent some time zeroing rifles. OH

Good job! 788 did the job. A good shot, hardly any meat loss and you sure don't have to follow a blood trail. We have to wait till Thanksgiving Day , the archery guys are about to get started here in the Panhandle.

Had the pleasure of another mission yesterday!

Let the boys use axe's. They (can you see all 4) swung for hours. This pile of wood shown is for the campers.
Some lucky camper's will find a nice pile (not shown) busted up by me and the boys!

Back in the woods this morning,in my ground blind -- saw this one @ 7:30am easing out on my shooting lane** -- he wanted a bite of corn for breakfast, but got ""Lead Poisoning"" instead --- small 6 point rack @ 145lbs. --- cube steak for the winter*** ___ saw a couple of nice ones this afternoon,but no shot ---also saw 4 wild turkeys walk past, and a squirrel tried to get in the tree with me -- been some great two days of hunting so far -- back in the AM --- have a great day my friends**__________Monk

We can take 5 bucks & 5 does on private land ( got 4 doe tags ,can use anytime ) --- I'm in a club with 4 other friends ( 2 of us are over 65,1 75 year old, and a couple of ""whipper-snappers in their late, 40's ),__ we have 350 acs. leased -- I have 70 acs., I hunt alone (in between two 400 ac. tracts that don't allow hunting !!!!!! ) --- I actually killed two Sunday @ the club (didn't photo the smaller one, 70 lb. doe) and got the 6 point on my 70ac. tract this morning ---- I'll be in a different stand in the morning,with a different rifle*** going to try & break em' all in this year
