Ruana smokejumper
Just acquired this little Ruana, I believe it is called a smokejumper model. Anybody want to hazard a guess on when it was made? I believe it was in the late 80's but that's just a guess. I'm sure it was made after Rudy died. It is really small and the grip is what I would call a "three fingered type", but it kind of grows on you, neat little packing knife. thanks, terry

Re: Ruana smokejumper
Terry that's a great little fixed blade. Congrats on making it part of your collection.
I must confess I'm just a little jealous.

Re: Ruana smokejumper
They are great knives....looks like yours has had some dye put on the stag
All the ones from that era were all done in Elk Stag scales
mine is pictured here so you can see the color of the scales
Rudy made em way back in the day and this knife got its name
being carried by an Elite group of Firefighters in Montana that would
jump out of planes behind the main fire line fighting major forest fires
in Montana...they went by the SmokeJumpers name, thus a Ruana was born

Re: Ruana smokejumper
It could handle bout all your back country chores Gary
and in a neat tight holding to your side on your belt package,,,
mine is in Michigan and I am in Arizona right now,,,
so I cannot give you the exact measurements
Its the only Ruana that I have ever owned, but I have a
very good old buddie in Montana thats put a larger pattern Ruana hunter
thru the rickets since 1971 and is still his EDC

Re: Ruana smokejumper
Thanks Will. I'll find the dimensions online somewhere.
I understand Ruana's claim to fame (and a bit of a marketing strategy) was driving a blade through a nail without damaging the blade. I don't recall where I read that......but it's out there somewhere.
