Osgood Bray & Co - A rare knife & Burkinshaw made......

Here’s a rare one from my understanding and quite frankly in searching AAPK I did not find this maker ever posted…

Osgood Bray & Co. – Equal-End Jack – 3 & 3/4 “ – Grooved worm bone – Long pull Master with double sided swedge, Brass liners – just a nice solid heavy jack knife overall!! I did a few different photos showing different aspects – I know you guys like photos ) ... I really like grooved worm bone… Grooved worm bone is a cool look to me and I have an H&B jack that also has the same type of jigging for posting sometime in the future….

Short History: Osgood Bray & Co. was a wholesaler of cutlery in Boston in the later 1800s to 1905 known for their razors, scissors, shears, pocket knives and manicure instruments. Their knives were made in Pepperell MA and Solingen Germany (though what I understand is that their razors were probably all from Germany – and such things as the pocket knives from Pepperell… though it is abit cloudy). However this knife has the 3 star trademark stamp in a circle of “circles” – see photo - and those knives with the 3 star stamp have been documented to have been made by A Burkinshaw in Pepperell MA - Burkinshaw was the knife maker for Osgood Bray & Co in Pepperell .… Just a little excitement here - sorry ... The tang stamp photo depicts the 3 stars in the circle on front of tang and on the reverse is Osgood Bray & Co… Smaller pen blade has only the 3 star stamp on front of tang. I think it is a pretty cool stamp as well… unique…

I am posting this knife by itself for viewing but need to add it to the thread of “Obscure and Rare” stamps/knives as well – I found this thread a few days ago and noticed Osgood Bray & Co was not included – nor did I find this maker on any other thread on AAPK – just need to find the “Obscure and Rare” thread again to add this if indeed that is the one I am thinking of !!!

Please post any other Osgood Bray & Co knives or cutlery here that you may have – I would love to see them… Thanks guys !!!

Hey Steve - at the NCCA show .. Sorry - I thought I showed you this along with the Miller Bros Wharncliffe..... maybe not... Great meeting you (in person finally) at the NCCA show and thanks again for all Steve!!!

In fact I meant to report back to the forum here on the NCCA (Northeast Cutlery Collectors Association) show but been busy getting ready to tie flies at the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum and Center this weekend.. and fishing there tomorrow ....... The NCCA show was great fun... met great folks and saw some nice knives... even picked up a few ....

I have one Burkinshaw knife as well but unfortunately the pen blade is broken.Looks like a very old break as the rest of the knife is in near mint condition.Strangely enough only the pen blade was stamped.

MB - that is one nice Burkinshaw and a Wharncliffe Whittler as well - a real beauty ... I'll have to post an old Miller Bros Wharncliffe Half Whittler in another thread - looks almost exactly the same in design to this Burkinshaw but with an elongated federal shield - but again a Half Whittler... Maybe its time to pull up an old thread on traditional Wharncliffe knives if one exists I have a soft spot for Wharncliffes in a serpentine pattern ....

Another Osgood Bray & Co I picked up last month... 2 Blade MOP Shadow Senator... 3 & 1/4" (as an aside picked up another Burkinshaw as well but was thinking Burkinshaw needs a thread all to itself ... just need a few more pics )....
